doesn't look like odom is too content playing with kobe. are the lakers going to take the shaq/nash plan and go after yao or somebody like that in 2 years?

penny, kurt, and our #1

for

odom, grant

this goes against what i've been saying about trading draft picks, but i'd offer this b/c odom is AWESOME and on the rise. i'd say take it or leave it.

but we'd have to follow up with another trade to get back another pick this year (possibly 2006 spurs + $3mil for 18-25).

Another Odom thread? Will it it turn it to an "Odom is a better player but Zach is a better fit with Marbury" debate again? We've had this discussion a lot.

Yes. Anyone who thinks we can get Odom is on crack. The Lakers can get A LOT more. Odom fits a lot of teams' style of play.

How about we get neither and just stick to rebuilding through the draft and get under the cap in some distant future so we can get an FA whose head is not growing out of his behind and how does not smoke up on a regular basis.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Two lottery picks to go with Bulter, and Kobe, plus cap space is enticing too the Lakers but since they essentialy got Odom for Shaq the could never justify the trade

I see, shooting form could be a problem.

Not to mention, it can't be helping court vision.

Or daily function for that matter.

Odom was rated #3 in the top 5 players who won't be with there teams next season. Along with Artests, all of portlands up coming free agents. Spree was #1, And I think Boozer was in that list but I don't remember.

We can definitely get Odom is Isiah makes a strong push at getting him. He and Kobe are not on the same page, and Kobe is more confortable playing with Buttler instead. The Lakers are looking for cap room, therefore dealing TT and Kurt or Penny and Kurt for Odoms and Walton we can definitely get that deal done. LA are strongly considering going after Yao Ming and that has been all over the media....

If need be, trade Sweetney also to make room at the 4

Marb, Crawf, Ariza, Odom, Petro should be our lineup for next season....

Odom reminds me of a Tim Thomas- sure his numbers are better- but there is something underwealming about him & his play

of course, if your trading TT & Kurt & perhaps a late 1st rounder (this year or next), then not bad. But that alone doesn't change the outlook for this team & isn't putting us over the top.

If the Lakers are interested in winning rather than making money (which is unlikely for most teams), they should ask themselves whether the player to trade is Lamar or Kobe. I don't think at this point Kobe is a player who makes his teammates better. Actually, I think he substantially impeded the team last year and hasn't done much to improve his teammates this year. I think he would have huge trade value, though, but it's still very hard to get equal value back for a superstar at his level. On a practical level, I'd say it's extremely unlikely that the Lakers would trade Kobe any time soon.

the guy was going through a criminal prosecution case & he still managed to put up astonishingly good #'s for a guy who was distracted through the preceeding offseason w/the whole rape trial craziness & was the #1 scorer & #2 assist man on his team...not to mention how many times i've seen Kobe make a clutch shot in crunchtime to help his team win games...his team made it to the NBA Finals & lost to a very good team in Detroit that was the hottest team in basketball at the time...just how did Kobe impede them last year?

Well the off the court stuff as you mentioned. Plus he didn't get the ball to Shaq nearly as much as he should have. We're seeing an inferior (talent-wise) player in Wade having more success with Shaq now because Wade is the more team-oriented player. As far as the stats go, 5.1 APG from Kobe last year is pretty unimpressive to me. I don't care if he's listed as an SG; he has the ball in his hands more than most PGs, has better playmaking skills than nearly every guard, and had the best big man in the league on his team. You can put an inferior SG like Wade with Shaq (without Karl Malone or Gary Payton) and he'll still give you 7 to 8 assists per game.

I never said Kobe was a bad player. I think his approach to the game over the past two years has been disappointing, though.

Odom and Marbs played well together in the olympics. I think they would feed off each other well and would really make the Knicks a decent team.

The Lakers supposedly were gonna trade for Boozer. Boozer qualifies as a guy who has played well on losing teams.

I don't even wanna rack my brain right now. I would love to have Odom on the Knicks! Work something out with LA and Utah where the Knicks get Odom!!!

A trade for Odom would be nice, but from what I have heard last night from ESPN, Phil Jackson is inquiring and has even introduced himself to Odoms, which is a sign of Phil coming back to coach the Lakers next season. If he returns, he will definitely try to keep Odoms around because of his versatility. Oh, Phil also loves Craw, why not trade him to the Lakers for Walton, Cook and a pick...??
