Which of these two UConn Huskies would you rather have on your team and why? Forget what they are paid now. Assume both are free agents and you could go after one or the other.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

I'm tempted to say rip hamilton for his constantly improving defense, court awareness, passing, and shooting, but right now ray allen is just at another level. However, it depends on the team I am the GM for. Am I rebuilding? If so, rip. If not, ray. Ray is nearing that 30 yo mark where most SG's start declining. He is lethal as ever as a shooter though

Rip, because he plays defense, & he's the type of secondary player that can thrive on just about any team.

but doesnt rip being a secondary player make rip worse than ray who has been a leader for seattle? imagine if you switched rip and ray, how would their teams be doing?

i think seattle would be worse and detroit would be better... just my opinion

i think ray had more intangibles

I definitely don't think shooters start declining at 30. In fact shooters tend to be some of the most durable guys in the league. Reggie Miller who is 39 right now, has just begun to taper off in the last 3 years or so. I would say 33 is the age where most guards begin to decline.

....and I don't know who I'd take, either one would be good, although I think Ray Allen is a better talent, I still rate them even because of Rip's D. Just get one of em and we'll be fine.

i think Rip adds more to the team than Ray Allen in all phases of his game...he can defend, pass, makes smart decisions w/the ball, can shoot the midrange J better than anyone in the game, & he can knock down the 3 pointers as well...Ray Allen is a dynamic scorer, but that's about it...he's 1 dimensional, whereas Rip is an all around good player...in this case i take Rip's all around talent over Ray Allen's superior scoring ability.

I think you guys didnt have your morning coffee. Ray is better all around. I think you overrate Rip's defense and Det hides him very well. Rip might have the best mid range game in the NBA, but he's still about 180lbs and a little one dimensional at times. Ray's game is very balanced and will get to the basket, use the midrange game and of course bomb away where he's in an elite group of long distance shooters. Ray's a better playmaker and will give you 5-6 assists also. I think Rip is 4-5 years younger so thats a factor to me Ray is just superior on all sides.

Ray's defense is horrendous fish...i have no idea where you're coming up w/that...he's a great scorer & a more talented offensive player than Rip, but there's no way you can tell me he adds more to a team concept of defense than Rip Hamilton does...sorry, i just don't buy it.

would you like cream & sugar or do you take it black?

Hamilton because he's younger. If they were the same age, it would be about even - some plusses and minuses with each player.

Between Allen and Hamilton Id take Allen. What helped was this amazing high arc jumper over he made over Yao last night. Its on the ESPN top ten, check it out if you have the chance. Its amazing.

Not trying to go too off topic but Im curious. If it were between Hamilton and Billups, who would you take? Id take Billups.

I still take Hamilton...he's a rare type of player...he's in constant motion & never stops moving...i love that about him...if the Knicks ever had Reggie Miller he'd probably be my favorite alltime player...i think Rip Hamilton is similar in the way he plays the game.

Ray is the better player. He's a better shooter (Rip doesn't hit many 3s), better ball-handler, and better passer. I don't think there's a huge difference in their defense other than that Rip has the killer Wallaces protecting the basket. The only advantage Rip has (and it's a huge one if you're thinking long-term) is age.
