Spinning the wheels on an offseason trade... How about going in another direction and getting Steve Francis, who is essentially the same player as Marbury but a better rebounder. Then we give them TT who they can keep for only a year or decide if they like him and resign him. We get Doug Christie who never fit in there and has worn out his welcome, and they throw in Tony Battie so we have a legit center. It works under the cap and Battie and Christie have only one year left on their contracts if we don't like how they perform next year. The risk is Stevie Franchise, but I say do it.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

you realize ORL is taking on approximately $20 million dollars more in longterm salary in that deal? why do they do it to get essentially the same player in Marbury who rebounds less?

And is older.

ridiculous. Why would orlando suddenly be willing to trade for our overpaid players? this is like some kind of fantasy dream, all the other teams are suddenly willing to give away better players for crap

I think Marbury is better than Francis. I don't need a PG to grab rebounds.

so you want a shoot first PG that's not as good a scorer and is a worse passer than the one we have now?

this makes no sense...

Stephon Marbury 49% of salary ratio 4 yrs remaining
Tim Thomas 43.2% of salary ratio 1 year remaining

Steve Francis 41.3% of salary ratio 4 years remaining
Doug Christie 25.3% of salary ratio 1 year remaining
Tony Battie 16.1% of salary ratio 1 year remaining

We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

I think it is a fair trade. They have TT for one year if that's all they want and have cap space to maneuver then also losing the contracts of Battie and Christie. They would have Steph, Grant Hill and Dwight Howard as their nucleus with TT coming in as a sixth man. Many people like Steph better than Francis, I just don't. They both average over 21 a game this year. Both are shoot first granted but we've gone nowhere with Steph, why not try going somewhere without him? Finally, they hardly use Battie and Christie now, look at their stats. Christie plays some defense and would fit better with the Knicks and then maybe Crawford could play the point.

just in case no one has pointed it out yet, stephon is only one day older than stevie. so the term "older" doesn't really make that much sense.

I don't want Francis. He's even more prima donna then our own Marbury.

I was about to point that out, it is funny no matter who the knicks get, the other teams players are always better and younger. If we were to get amare stoudamire and post a trade in here to trade him for webber, someone would probably post " well amare is overpaid. and oh yea, he is older then webber too".. (rolling eyes, shaking head)

nah, that wouldn't happen.

the fact is you have to give the Magic a reason that makes it worth spending that extra $20 million...if you say you're going to give them some draft picks, fine...& even if Francis is demanding a trade & only wants to come to the Knicks, that deal doesn't get made as long as Isiah is the GM...it's just not a realistic scenario...everyone mine as well get resigned to the fact that Marbury is here to stay unless Dolan wants to get rid of Isiah.

Roja,

I don't think it's a fair trade nor do i feel it is a trade that would even make sense

The Knicks would be giving up their "star" player and a nice size expiring contract for another "star" player and junk, basically
