"I think he (Isiah) has accumulated a lot of good players who will occupy three or four positions for the future," Walsh told The Post. "I think he needs the position that will galvanize his team, which is a starting center and not easy to get. That would make sense of the other players he has on the team. If New York could come up with a low-post player, it changes things in a hurry. That's his remaining duty."

"Sixteen months is not enough to rebuild a team," said the respected Walsh. "I do like the pickups he's made. He's getting quality players at the 1-2-3 and could move [Tim] Thomas to 4. He needs that one remaining position. Those are hard to come by. But he made great strides in breaking up the team he got, bringing in good players like [Stephon] Marbury, [Jamal] Crawford, [Trevor] Ariza."

Interesting, Walsh says he hasn't seen Marbury on a team that is a fit for him yet. I thought it was the other way around. I thought the great ones impose their will and make the team fit them.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

I agree with everything Walsh said.....Good days are coming. Isiah choose to work for the worst run franchise in the NBA, working with the highest payroll. He is still in the first stages of his tenure with the Knicks.

Phase 2 began when he traded Nazr, Baker, Moochie, Brewer, and that second rounder for Rose, Mo Taylor and the 2 1st round draft picks.

The Knicks now have a workable team with an owner that is capable of footing the bill on a few buyouts if need be.

I'm excited for the future.

I've shared this stance on Isiah throughout the whole time and I'm happy that I share the same sentiments as an elite NBA executive.

There are some nice pieces in place, there are a few draft picks for this year, just have to get the whole plan together and it looks to me like that is happening. 16 months is not enough time for anyone, let him work his plan out in full, if in the end it doesnt work then it doesnt work but atleast give the man a chance to get it all out there.

I think he is just pumping up a friend when he's down. If Isiah can't get a dominant low post player, this team sucks.

I think we can all agree on that. He has to be dominant on D or O, and we should be good.

>>Rich - I think he is just pumping up a friend when he's down.

In the words of my man emann22 (pardon the bootleg) "Why do so many are labeling ZEKE a flop for his failure to turn water into wine in less than 2 years ?"

All Walsh is suggesting is that Isiah made a clculated move to trade Nazr when he decided he wasn't the center to lead the team. I can ge with that.

How many people would give Isiah the same seven years it took the Bulls to get back to the playoffs?

If not, why not?

I would give him all the time he wanted if he blew the team up and started over, rather than mindlessly adding mediocre players with big contracts. This teams needs to tank and get top five picks. Instead they play an injured Marbury and win games that aren't in their best interests to win.

Blowing up is what Atlanta did by trading Terry, Rahim, Mutumbo then Ratliff and on down the line......problem is the Knicks don't have those types of players that teams would trade their futures for.

If the Knicks were to blow up....you gotta find a team that actually wants to trade ending contracts for Houston's endless "highest paid shooting guard in league history" salary. Then you got Timmy and Penny, not to mention the other salaries of KT, JYD, Rose and Taylor who are about a wash.

You simply can't blow up the Knicks. What you can do is do exactly what Isiah has been doing and that is consolidating the roster with servicable and more importantly tradable players who can do what Nazr did for the Knicks and that was bring back 2 first round draft picks!!!!

Breathe easy. Isiah is doing exactly what he should.

I couldn't disagree more. Adding mediocre players with big contracts decreases the hope of gaining payroll flexibility and increases the number of wins, thereby harming their ability to draft impact players.

Isiah should never have traded for Marbury or Crawford or Taylor or TT.

If he had done nothing, the Knicks could get under the cap when Houston's contract expires, and gain better draft position in the process.

This team is a mess with no direction.

Doing nothing to a team that was a complete mess is the last thing Isiah should have done. If Isiah was going to do nothing Layden should have just been fired and the team shouldn't have hired a replacement. Just let the bad coach play the bad players. Then on draft day, first guy that wants to run up on stage is the Knicks pick.

Patience is definitely the word here - (Thank Scotty for that) Zeke knows that the real party can't start until after H2O's contract is up, and I'm ok with waiting for that. Until then it'll be cool to (hopefully) watch Trev and Sweets grow up, learning to mind-meld with Steph, etc.

knix - i would've loved h20's contract to be the target date to do some stuff BUT we've taken on deals for the year after h20 and we're pretty muched capped out in 07/08 already. that's poor planning IF that's what the plan was to begin with...
