'I'm confident I can make it,' Garcia saysAssociated Press
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Francisco Garcia will forgo his senior season at Louisville and enter the NBA draft.
"There's no going back. I think I can be a lottery pick," Garcia said Thursday in a conference call with the Dominican media.
The 6-foot-7 forward, who was born in the Dominican Republic but went to high school in New York, said he will participate in several training camps to prepare for the June 28 draft.
"I know my abilities and I'm confident I can make it," he added.
Louisville coach Rick Pitino said Thursday before the announcement that Garcia was ready to turn pro.
"I want him to go pro. I do not want him coming back," Pitino said. "Fans will say, 'Is he crazy?' Probably. But it's a dream of his and the young man wants to go. He's ready for it."
This season, Garcia led the Cardinals in scoring (15.7 points a game), assists (148), steals (65) and blocks (56) as they made the Final Four for the first time since the 1986 championship team.
Garcia also said he will play with the Dominican Republic in the upcoming Tournament of the Americas in Santo Domingo in August and September.
"It's always wonderful to represent your country. I've had that honor several times, but the world championship qualifier will be a very special event for me," he said.

I think this guy is solid. Maybe he's gonna be a sixth man in the NBA, but I can see him providing a shooting/scoring spark for teams. Looks like we have no chance of getting him with the late first rounder, but I hope he slips.

he may slip to us. it's funny how many kids think they'll be lotto picks. don't they take a look at draftcity or nbadraftnet to get an idea that there are a lot of other prospects?

the thing is someone is going to slip. Someone very good is going to have a bad workout, or a bad camp, while someone like Troy Bell will have a monster camp and be out of the league a year later.

i don't think we want to draft him. but the more that declare, the better off we are (as is everybody else but that's besides the point). and the more that declare, the more and more i want to get another pick in this draft.

Some people are saying Kerry Kittles with his body type, shooting and court sense. When I did the comparison thread I compared him to a thinner Korver. Either way I think we need a consistent outside shooter, and a shooter for the 2nd unit, and this guy can be it. There will be a lot options at the 30th pick, but taking a quality senior who can contribute early will be one.
