There are a number of ways to acquire Samuel Dalembert.

The best one that I could come up was this:

Sign & Trade for Dalembert + Mash

for Either Tim Thomas and Sweets
or Penny Hardaway by himself.

They both add up to the same thing (16 million ish) and this leaves Dalembert with a contract starting at about 6 million per, which seems about what he’d be getting on the market. Of course it’s a sign and trade so you can tweak it by adding in a Bruno here and there to add a million here take a million there. TT + Sweets makes the most sense, they get a young good PF to go along with youth movement and a TT who will give you 25 every 6 or 7 games! Ok, he’s an expiring contract, but they do need some insurance for C Webb and sweets provides that cheaply while also allowing them to dump some salary.

Now, the Mashburn explanation for those of you who understandably think taking on his contract is crazy. If he plays next year GREAT!! Mash will split time with Ariza and Trevor could learn a lot from him.

If he can’t his contract is a player option, we could ask him not to retire and just offer a nice retirement present (it wont count against the cap!). He’s a Harlemite (like me), he loves the knicks, he’ll do it. I think this is how it could work but I could be wrong. But know we have a big center who blocks shots and rebounds and runs the floor well. That’s all we ever wanted from that postion. With our draft picks and at least one more trade, we should be in business.

Acquiring Dalembert would change this team a lot on both ends. What do you guys think about my trade idea?

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Whoa, that caught me off guard. If we could turn him into Dalembert, you simply have to do it.

how about JYD and the rights to our lottery pick?

If you want to be a little more realistic.

I would rather wait on a guy like Petro or the Russian kid. We are prob going to stink for awhile anyway.

If we get Dalembert we are not going to stink, that is an instant upgrade on defense and offense, and I am talking about his presence alone. Just rebounds shot blocking and intimidation. Not to mention I think him being in the paint when Steph drives is gonna have him scoring lots of points. But maybe its just a pipe dream.

Philly is in a funny cap situation too and they have 2 max players, they have to resign Kyle Korver and some other guys. It was just a though.

I was thinking about Philly, and I think it's more likely that they'll fire Jim O'brien than trade Dalembert. A lot of the reason for Dalembert's bad season has been O'brien's coaching philosophy.

I bet Philly fires him and makes a play for Silas or Saunders.

I don't think there's anyway we can trade for Dalembert. Why not just draft Petro and get the NEXT Dalembert without having to make a huge contract offer? Or draft Frye or Taft? I think we really have to start thinking economically about the chances we take. Realistically, Dalembert would be a risk. He hasn't played well over a full season ever and while he's a great prospect, it's hard to say how great. He's no Camby. So I wouldn't overpay.

I think it's better to do the homework and come away from this draft with two guys who are 6'10" to seven foot. That has to be the foundation. It's really hard to get someone with TALENT in this league with out giving up a ****load (see Marbury trade), EXCEPT in the draft. The draft is the easiest, cheapest way to acquire A-level talent.

only its not so easy to get talent in the draft. Every year tons of guys who are thought to be sure things are busts and unknown players turn into stars. The draft is the cheapest NOT the easiest. You never know what you're gonna get. In trades you have at least seen the player play in the NBA, you have some idea what you're getting. But the draft is much cheaper, I agree.

This draft is a little different though. Before it was always "What star are we going to pass on this year?"
Whether you love him or hate him, Zeke has a great draft history. This year he has the picks to work with. I would be surprised if we don't come out of this draft happy.
