I remember this a few years ago when we were in the Ward era thinking we should give this guy a shot.

He's playing sick ball in Europe, is an explosive scorer and a guy equally dedicated to defense. Lets say that again... dedicated to defense.

At 26 with some years of pro ball under his belt he could be a nice investment/addition.

26, dominating his competition, plays tough defense.

I vaguely remember Bell, but his numbers are impressive, if he were european with those numbers and still only 26, the NBA would be all over him... I saw the names walter berry in that article... haha, that bought back some memories, I really thought walter would make it in the NBA... Oh well..

No... he went undrafted. If we want him we need only offer him a contract worth signing. He's got 2 babies and he's making good money overseas... something to the tune of $400-$500k a year with offers in the $1mm range pending.

If we want him (and I think he's a good fit) I would be SHOCKED if a guy like that turned down a 3 year $4mm contract. This situation reminds me Daryll Armstrong, only Bell is bigger. DA was a VERY solid player for a long time. Bell seems like a bigger version a little younger.

Guys like this fight and claw every minute they are on the floor. This is the kind of toughness we need on the perimeter. Rather then draft some prima donna HS kid we should be exploring these kinds of options.

he wont take a roster invite. We will need to guarentee at least $2mm to him. Euroleagues usually start earlier so its one or the other.

As for the roster space who knows? This is a player that fills 2 needs.. backup PG and a guard that defends. We need someone that does that one way or another, this looked like as good an option as an NBA FA we probably cant afford, Penny Hardaway or anyone that will be available in the 2nd round.

We spend $8mm on Vin Baker for NOTHING. Nada, zilch. Wouldnt the $$ be better spent on a 26 year old with good experience, dominating his competition that you know is level headed and TOUGH?

it's worth a small risk, but who's to say he'll be any better than Brewer or JJackson who could score in other leagues, just not the NBA but play solid D?

I'd rather take a risk on Stephen Hunter who has shown he can play with Dalembert when given minutes. But if Hunter or Gadzuric aren't available (and they likely won't be), I wouldn't mind taking a look.

JJ played in the CBA and thats crap. Bell will be paid well to play with good players overseas. MAybe not NBA good but look at the Olympics... thats where those guys are playing

No reason you cant add Hunter also. The only roadblock is roster spaces, so someone like Butler wouldnt be back, OR you have to beg teams with cap space to take 2-3 of your vets.

I remember Charlie Bell well.....he was a really good player in college.

I love this quote from the article
"I don't judge my career by the NBA," he said. "It'd be great. It's not the world to me. I'm playing well in Europe and making good money in Europe. And I know that not all the best players are in the NBA."

Now that is what the kids say is "gangsta". He's basically saying to hell with the NBA if he can make millions in Europe. The NBA closed the door on him because of his size so more power to him. The Knicks would only offer him the minimum anyway.
