1) Can you do a sign and trade on draft day? For example, can a GM trade a pick and a player for a player whom another team (e.g., the Bulls' Curry or Chandler) signs and trades?

2) Can a team screw another team? Could a team picking late in the draft like the Bulls say, "we'll trade you Curry and our pick for TT, Sweetney, and your lottery pick if you pick player X." Then you pick player X, who you don't really want and the Bulls pull out of the trade?

not sure about #1, but i know if any team pulled what you're describing in #2, that would be the last trade they ever get done in the NBA w/ANY team...no one wants to deal w/unscrupulousness like that.

Well, they could do it more subtlely than that. They could claim TT failed his physical, which would ruin the trade and make us stuck with a player we didn't want. Or is there a rule against doing that? It would still be viewed negatively by other GMs, especially if TT is reasonably healthy. But it becomes more blurry if you replace TT with someone like Penny Hardaway, who's much less healthy, in a different deal.

promising to take a player for another team in a future trade is risky. Remember a few years back where the Clippers were trading someone they drafted for Dre Miller to Cle. I dont remember the specifics but it did get complicated because one of the teams was having 2nd thoughts.

You cant outright dick someone because you will get blackballed... thats just business.
