prime knick candidates

zach:

about to start the FIRST year of a MAX extension (6/7 years)
coming off of knee problems
plays ZERO defense
and likes punching his teammates in the face
oh, and looks like eddie winslow from "family matters"

he's young and is 20/10 but i urge you all to repeat after me, just say NO to zach randolph

ray:

30 years old with knee problems
about to get a MAX or close to MAX contract (6/7 years)

nice jumpshooter and nice fit but has h20 written all over him so i urge you all to repeat after me again, just say NO to ray allen

let's see...dice...h20...yup, i think we had enough knee problems with big $$$'s for one lifetime...

JUST SAY NO!!!

I totally agree. I'd much rather see what we can get for cheap in the draft. Maybe draft Warrick and trade either Thomas or Sweetney or both, start Warrick and have Rose and JYD coming off the bench?? It sounds farfetched, but it's just an idea.

Shooting is a very lost art, and I LOVE Ray Allen. He's my favorite player noton the Knicks, but DJ is right. He's looking for a bigtime extension and he has had these knee problems. He has already lost a step and is 30. I'd much rather travel another route and develop our own Ray.

I'm with you all the way, I think both of them come off as sexy on paper but Ray and his knees = BAD news and Zach Randolph is probably the worst chemistry player in the NBA.

if we didn't have Sweetney then I would definitely consider Randolph but since we dont need him I rather not take the risk of bringing in a major cancer who plays zero D.

As for as Ray Allen and his 7yr contract at max money..HELLLLLL NO!!!!

No to randolph. NO to Darious Miles. No to bad attidude punks.

Ray-Ray Signed for 4 years in a sign and trade for Craw and KT might work. KT should be used in any trade for a big.

a 3-4 year deal I wouldn't mind since his contract would will be the same length as Marbury's. Maybe its possible that no team is willing to give him the 6-7 years he's looking for so he has to settle for 4 with us at the $13mil per KT + Crawford make.

This is a good thread dj. I want to know everyone's opinion about this.

I definately dont want Zach. He is punk. He will ruin this team and its future. I wouldnt have a problem with Ray-Ray (thats a good nickname) on a 4 year deal like Nalod said but I would rather we stay away from him.

yeah the problem is the knicks always overpay unlike most teams who put 4yrs on the table and tell them take it or leave it. I would love Ray at 4yrs starting at 13mil but absolutely no more years than that! I don't want a 35-36 year old in a suit making max $$$ and not contributing at all.

You guys are making some great points, but I have to disagree on this. NYK has to improve the talent level and Ray and Zach do that, so they are worth the risk. Sign and trade Jamal and Kurt for Ray fo whatever deal he wants. Ray turns 30, so longest deal could be is for 6 years, meaning last possible year he would be 35, I'll take that chance. Zach is a PUNK that plays ZERO defense. Sweetney's upside is Zach's offense plus good D. But we don't know if Mike will get there, maybe this is all he is (a good player). Mike and Penny for Zach after July 1 when his contract extension kicks in. Either Ruben Patterson or Derek Anderson would have to be included to make it work under the cap, depending on whether Zachs's deal wold be BYC or not . Blazers are dying to trade those two, so they'd do that deal.

I dont think Ray will make it past 3-4 yrs without having to miss a full season or 2 after he finally is forced to have knee surgery. if you want to give him a 6 year deal which is pretty much the deal Allan Houston got, then you are really asking for it. Again..last thing this team needs is another player in a suit making making max money. He is 30 and already having Knee problems at least Houston only started having them at 32.

right and then when both allen and zach have to take some time off b/c of their knee, we're now talking about $60 mil on the bench b/c of knee problems and marbury passing to the young stud we all know and love in mo taylor.

sign and trade jamal and kurt for ray allen??????

jamal can do everything that ray can do. in a year ray won't be able to take anyone off the dribble

this makes ZERO sense

okay i will try again

jamal is younger than ray. and just as talented. neither has won defensive player of the year but the difference is ray has seen his prime

why would you want to throw in kurt thomas. he is the starting center. who will be the starter if he is traded? jackie butler?

the contracts don't even match

i mean. WHAT?!

we do have a real star on our hands.

you bring up a good point with stats. ray shoots 42% which is not exactly hall of fame in itself and jamal shoots 39% but the diff is ray is past his prime and jcraw hasn't met his prime

there are career highs for both players:

points: 47 ray - 50 jcraw
fgm: 17 ray - 18 jcraw
fga: 28 ray - 34 jcraw
3fgm: 10 ray - 6 jcraw
3fga: 17 ray - 15 jcraw
ftm: 19 ray - 10 jcraw
fta: 20 ray - 11 jcraw
Off reb: 9 ray - 4 jcraw
def reb: 10 ray - 9 jcraw
total reb: 13 ray - 11 jcraw
assist: 13 ray - 12 jcraw
steals: 6 ray - 6 jcraw
blocks: 2 ray - 3 jcraw

the kid can hold his own with ray allen.
