This is a quote from his chat yesterday:

Sam (NY): Hi Chad, do you think the Knicks are better served trying to get to the playoffs, where they'll only be swept by the Heat or Pistons, or easing up and trying to get a high draft pick?

Chad Ford: Hate to tell you this Sam, but I don't think the Knicks make the playoffs even if they try. They're not going to ease up, but will end up with a 10-12 pick in the draft anyway. They need a center -- someone athletic who can block shots. Those guys typically aren't available at that point in the draft. My guess is that Isiah falls in love with someone like Hakim Warrick ... maybe that's more than a guess:) Read into it what you will.

...........

I certainly wouldn't mind Warrick, I honestly think he's like Marion and could be an athletic four or a dominant three. Obviously, not a team need, but if you can get a potential all-star at 10-14 rather than a project, I think you have to do it.

I wonder if Chad has heard something, or he's blowing smoke once again.

He fits the bill in many ways. No one is going to be upset if we pick Hakim. It stays with the reasonably safe bet theory, and he really does have top 5 pick talent, but will likely fall because of the tweener status. On our team of PFs, he can just play the position F without small or power in front of the name.

I wonder if this will be a sort of replay of the 1999 draft where there's a rather obvious BPA on the board that everyone assumes the Knicks will take (Artest/Warrick) and there's an intriguing French center who fills a team need (Weis/Petro).....WHAT WILL ZEKE DO???

Any chance Warrick would be available at #15 if the Knicks make the playoffs or would the Knicks have to move up in the draft to get him?

At this rate, Warrick MIGHT slip to 15, but it's no lock. I think he'll go somewhere between 8-14. There's a chance he's there at 15, which is why I don't hate the idea of making a playoff run now. Petro will probably go in the 8-15 range as well.

the good thing is *someone* will be around there. Petro, Warrick, Granger, Gerald Green... one of these guys will fall to our spot.
