Currently, they have their 8th pick. If they make the playoffs, they will be murdered and be maybe 11th in the draft. Not enough to have an impact player...but if they make the playoffs, don't they lose that pick? I heard that a few weeks ago, but what's the deals with that? Anyone know?

yes, only teams that don't make the playoffs get lottery picks (unless they own the rights to another team's pick).

First, they're not locked into the 8 pick. The lottery goes up untill like pick 14 this year. 14 is the worst pick they could get without making the playoffs. After winning the last couple games they are more like 10th right now.

Both of the picks they traded for Marbury were lottery protected or protected to some varying degree...one of them all the way untill the year 2010 or something. Phoenix traded one of the picks last year and Utah used it to draft Kirk Snyder. Now I believe the rule is you can't trade first rounders in consecutive years, so Phoenix wouldn't be able to exercise the pick this year. However if we're in the playoffs next year Phoenix could theoretically take away that pick.

The 2007 pick is protected to at least 20 if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure it was actually in the 24ish range.

if we made the playoffs we would likely pick 15. The pick we owe Pho is protected up to 25 this year, and lottery protectecdd through 2010. If we arent out of the lottery by that point we no longer owe them the pick... its conditional

Are you sure? I thought that if we aren't out of the lottery by 2010, we would owe them our unprotected 2011 pick. It's hard to imagine that scenario actually happenning anyway, though.
