When Hubie came in midseason a couple years ago he didnt impact the w/l record at all, but he quickly had the team playing harder and better defense. The Grizz were in games late and he used 9-10 guys and preached team D and husltle. I can see some of the same positives coming from Herb. I dont know if they didnt respond to Lenny or its just taking time, but there is a clear change. You cant squeeze blood from a stone and this team still has MAJOR talent issues. We are small. We have too many players that have too many holes. Everyone of our 5 PFs and TT does something well, but everyone also has greater flaws. I do believe if we can maintain this style of play, using what size we have, playing 10 guys and be dedicated to ourworking other teams we could have a decent team next year. we must execute in this draft and come away with 2 of 3 pieces:
A solid backup PG or combo guard that can really defend (Jack?)
A 7 footer with some skills (Petro?)
A swingman to replace TT
I think Ariza can be a player that can guard and perimeter position and thats a nice piece to have. Hopefully Butler makes the roster.
To make room for the rookies I think buying out Penny is a fair option.
We cant have 5 PFs. Its just stupid. If I have the chance to trade Sweetney to either move up significantly (maybe Sweetney + the #29 pick to move up to the teens, or a future #1... prefferably 2007) I would do it.

Its a lofty goal, but if we could somehow come away with Petro and Gerald Green in this draft I think we could really have something. I think they will go in the range of Green 4-6 and Petro 8-10. Thats tough but I would GLADLY use Sweetney, either of the #1s next year or of course cash to move up and make something happen. Then with Crawford, Ariza, Green, Petro and Butler you would have a decent player/prospect at every position under 25

well, to me, this draft will make or break isiah as the GM of this team.

i advocated buying out penny before, so i'm on board with that. kills two birds with one stone (getting a roster spot for a pick AND preventing us from trading that god awful deal).

i DESPERATELY want to get another #1 this season. if it means moving sweetney (which i would hate), then so be it. but if we can get one via $$$$ and next year's #1, i'd rather do that.

the main objective of this team should be to have at least 6-8 players on the roster making <$5 mil/year and under the age of 25 by the 06/07 season.

Close, but I think what he does with Penny and TT's expiring contracts will give everyone the best idea of Isiah's vision for this team.

Herb is BETTER than Hubie

Thye abusive methods don't last long in the contemporary NBA

Herb has earned the players respect and they leave it ALL on the floor for him.

Despite NOT having a true center they are playing tough defense and rebounding with passion

Some people are never satisfied

Herb rocks!

Be satisfied that for one night your favorite team (Malik) "Rose" to the challenge and built on the Mo (Taylor)Mentum of the first quarter and played as a team.

I remember people talking about projections for Daniel Ewing were not that high.. I still think if we could get him, it would be a great fit.. a solid perimeter defender with some nice offensive talent.

I'm not gonna be satisfed untill my favorite team actually has a winnin season, which has not happened for a few years now, and will not happen again this year.

The rest is all fluff.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Like I posted earlier,I got a chance to see alot of Duke games last winter and Ewing stood out.I know most Duke players dont adjust well to the NBA despite the great coaching but I believe Daniel Ewing will be one of the exceptions. If he is available and we dont have a very high pick,Id say go for it.

I like Daniel Ewing quite a bit. I'd take him at 28/29. It's too bad we don't have our own second round pick, because he might slip to 40ish.

One thing about Herb: I don't know if this would change with a big contract, but the way he interacts with the players on a one on one basis is great. You can see it during the games. One game recently, Ariza had a bad stretch and picked up a stupid foul. Herb pulled and Ariza was walking to the bench dejected. Herb grabbed him when he walked by and told him what he did wrong and I assume how to not do that next time. Ariza smiled, problem over. I think Herb is great for the chemistry of this team and I hope he gets a chance.

Herb and Patrick on the bench next season would be so great. Can you imagine those two and Mark working with a guy like Petro? Oh man.
