Why are some people so high on the idea of getting a combo guard. I mean, don't we have 3 in Penny, Marbury and Jamal in the first place? Do people not realize that our only pure shooting guard is on the IR and may never come off? Why can't we try to either draft a pure PG or a pure SG or sign one, like Rush, or Lindsey Hunter, or trade Marbury or Crawford to improve the frontcourt, and so we could draft our own pure guard.
We need a couple of players whos skills fit purely for one of those positions, b/c we need a shooting guard who doesn't just jack up shots, like Crawford, and we need a PG whos job is to run the offense ALL THE TIME. Not someone who is inconsistent in whether he passes to his teammates a lot, or scores a lot, like Marbury. Where has this gotton us?

thank you for making this thread to clear that up. it was reall puzzling me why people wanted a combo guard when we don't have a real SG other than Penny who is 3 billion yrs old!

You don't win with combo guards. You win with pure pg's or pure sg players.
You win with post presence on offense and on defense. You definately dont win with pure PGs, pure SGs. Especially if you are defining pure SG as our pure shooting SG. Stephon with a post player will be a good team. We dont need to worry about PGs or SGs,m we need to worry about Center!

true we definitely need a good center first and foremost if we want to win a championship but we also need a perimeter defending SG to help us get closer. IMO you need both. You can do without a jump shooter as long as you have scores.

The Billups/Hamilton duo last year was pure class. Sound offensively and defensively, and backed up by some fine defensive frontcourt players. Our Marbury/Crawford duo is not even close to being in that class. It is less efficient offensively, lousy defensively, and is backed up by lousy front court defenders. If Houston was healthy we'd be pretty much set. But he isn't so we need to replace him with a pure 2. But before we do that, we need to find ourselves a 5 and a 3.

But it only works well with a post up player, who can score big time in the paint.
Kt hurts this team because he has absolutey NO POST UP GAME, and he's our best scoring pf. If we had a dominate center who draws doubles, and has a host of post up moves, then KT fits in perfect.
But thats not the case in any of our bigs, and sweets is just 2 young and inexperience.

you want to count penny as part of the core of this team, fine.
i would like to bring in another player through the draft who'll be here for the next 5 years. marbury is a scoring guard who gets assists b/c of his offense. crawford is a shooter first but is learning to be a point guard. so we need a guard that can run the offense. i have no problems drafting a PURE PG. but we also need a starting SG b/c i think crawford is best suited as a 6th man.
so take your pick - draft a PG, move marbury to SG. or draft a starting SG and bring craw off the bench. or take a combo guard and rotate between the 3.
but in my eyes, penny is not a part of this team nor should be relied upon to do anything. in fact, i would love to BUY HIM OUT this summer to open up a roster spot and prevent us from trading him for nastier contracts.

No, I agree about Penny, but I was just trying to bring up a point that I think it's better to go with the pure position players. If Crawford turns out to be a pure PG, then I think that would be outstanding in the long run. He would still need to bulk up a little, however.
But I just want to see this team have either a pure PG and/or a shooting guard you can rely on, who's not on the Injured List, who can also man up on defense a little bit.
