Rep Maxine Waters held up a big picture of the "Govinator" and asked how a former steroids user and cigar smoke could make the cover of sports illustrated. You could hear a pin drop.Canseco and Schilling are the most candid in that order.Mcguire is squirming like an Enron executive.

I thought the hearings were very interesting. One thing that shocked and appalled me was the following: As many people knew, if you tested positive for steriods, the first time you got a 10 game suspension; the 2nd time it was longer (I think a month); and each time it got longer. HOWEVER, no one knew until Congress subpeonaed the league that there was an alternative where instead of suspension (which would obviously make public your use of steriods), you could pay a $10,000 fine the first time and a higher fine each time. (Basically, you could pay the league to keep it quiet that you had tested positive.) And no one knew about this until Congress subpoenad the info. (after not being voluntarily given it)

Yeah, it was actually shocking to hear congressmen and congresswomen speaking without being able to tell simply from their words whether they were Democrats or Republicans. I guess either planes have to go through buildings or baseball players have to use steriods for that to happen.

Very well said, Bonn.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

God, I hate Mark McGwire...what a freakin' media ham he was all throughout the '98 season when he set the HR record, getting all the accolades, all the while he's shooting himself up w/Human Growth Hormone & Anabolic Steroids to get there...& now he doesn't have the balls to admit that he took them...i guess taking juice really does shrink one's testicles.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

And here is what they said when they were asked about that clause. Players said, "I dunno why its like that, I thought the names were always made public."

Then someone said, "Oh, that was a drafting error!" WTF is the deal with these guys? Do they really think they can fool Congressmen with retarded answers that wont even satisfy the media?

These congressmen are lawyers and they love messing with people. They cannot be bullied like reports can. Frankly, MLB had a really bad gameplan last night. I think Selig and Fehr are both gone soon.

Personally, I think it's overkill. This issue has some importance but it's somewhere below 1000 as a national priority. I'm a fan so I'd like to see the game cleaned up and I think it does send a bad message but...

Let's get the govenor of California and the pro wrestlers, body builders, beefed up actors to testify to - you think maybe some of em use riods. Aren't they setting bad examples also? Our culture is full of bad examples. Hell, a lot more kids die emulating race car drivers then emulating muscle heads - but no ones going to ban racing or muscle cars. You can't punish people for setting a bad example and someone cheating at a game is hardly a national issue.
