2 miles a day.

and 20 miuntes of light weights with heavy reps.

You will lose 10-15 in a month.

Here is the catch you can still eat what you want.

Guaranteed to work.

When people say cut back on the eating, I would advise rather to cut back on the meats and dairy, and junk food, and focus more on the healthy foods. That way yout body won't sacrafice nutrients, which can happen if you cut back on the eating. Do not eat past 8 pm. Try to get to sleep and get enough rest so your body can recouperate.

being a vegan might make you live longer, or it just SEEMS that way!

Actually there is a lot to be said about over cooking food. If you eat badly you create too much acid. Acid it what breaks down food, so your taxing the system. When you die you body creates acids that aid in growing the microbes that decompose the body. So if fatty foods create too much acid, those microbes and viruses that decompose the body thing your dead, or dying, and will promote decay, or the disease's. Eat living things that provide energy, not dead things that rob you of energy.

For starters, lots of water, fresh veggies, and don't overcook the foods. ease up on red meat.

The southbeach diet is great, and more important, its a guidline. No more bread and pasta, and no fried foods! Eat more freguently, but less quantity at one time.

Exercise in anyform is good! Variety is good because you won't get bored. Cardio to burn fat is the best as previously menitoned. Big muscle group lifting is not essential to lose mass as much as lots of reps. This too was mentioned.

After 30, the body changes. After 40, its the same but worse. I sit at a desk all day and that has done more to change my body make up than anything. I broke my neck playing ball (division III) at 20 years old and long gave up being a weakend warrior, thus dont have many of the ailments the 30years olds in the office have because what I do has to be low impact. I really miss tennis though! Eliptical is the best, and have also been fond of rowing of late. Great excercise! I am trying to get and stay small as its better for my conditions. Less stress on the joints, lumbar and my cervical spine where the bulk of my problems are. Key is keeping circulation going to the injured areas. The hot tub also speeds up metabolism, though very small benefit for dietary purpose. Staying active is the best.

Most of what has been written is all true and very good ideas! I would love to be even more disciplined but I think over time I have made progress. I quite smoking a few years back, havn't blown a doob in years, and only drink in amounts most experts would say is beneficial. Only red wine and Vodka in small amounts! The key is to live a certain way than fad diets or crash weight loss.

The southbeach diet as I mentioned was a great start and I proscribe to most of it even though I am not currently active in any weight loss. I feel better, have more energy and have not been sick other than a walking cold for one week in the last two years.

And have lots of Sex! Especially before bedtime. A good schtupp and a glass of water before bed each nite and you'll lose 10 lbs in a month (don't eat a pizza before schtupping!) good luck!

I like running but I've never gotten the kind of weight loss you guys get from it. I'm currently running 5 days a week - on trails in the snow (New England) and haven't lost a pound. For me I have to cut back on the eating along with exercising. Of course I'm over 45 so it's a different ball game but even when I was 30 I could run every day and not lose much weight unless I also cut back on the eating.

For me cutting back on eating combined with running and lifting works the best.

dj: You and I are almost Identical twins. I was 6 foot 1/2 inch and exactly 205 and it took me about 4 months to get down to a solid 185. I love this weight, I'm more agile and my knee problems are disappearing magically.

I didn't do a lot of lifting. I would do very light lifting with a lot of reps, 3 times a week, full body each day. 30 seconds inbetween sets and no gabbin with friends. I really worked up a sweat. I joined a gym and started taking Spinning(Cycling) 3 times a week and that really helped a ton. I also made sure to play basketball at least 2-3 times a week and instead of concentrating on playing well, I concentrated on going for every loose ball. I would run until I literally couldn't play anymore. I can't do the treadmill, this was more fun. Lastly and most importantly I paid close attention to my diet. I packed a lunch everyday. Filled my bag with fruit and salad. Would have a solid breakfast each morning, a sandwich for lunch and then chow on veggies and fruit all day. An added bonus was that I came down with a virus and had to take some medicine which kept me from drinking any alcohol. I haven't been in shape like this since about 1994.
I just hope that people will like me

I just found a fantastic nutrition website that has tons of information about many many foods. Here are their weight loss recommendations:
http://www.nutritiondata.com/dieting-weight-loss.html

They actually created a mathematical model which uses nutritional data to predict how filling food is, per calorie:

nice. i hope i can get back to 185 as well but would be happy with 190.

so far, in my first week, i eat a bowl of cereal every morning and i elimanted meat at lunch. nothing but spinach salads with tomatoes, cucumbers, brocolli, cauliflour, red beans, etc. for dinner, since rice and curry is a big part of my diet, i've been making a 1/2 cup of rice and either making a little fish or omellette with it. i've been running on the treadmill - slowly building up to 2 miles on intervals and have been doing pushups and situps along the way. just in diet alone, i feel 100% better. i was 204 1/2 this past monday. we'll see where i am in another two weeks. i would like to get down to 190 by memorial day so i hope it sticks.

bip - thanks for the post - it gives me something to strive for...

Diet is by far the most important. Even if you don't lose weight, your body will feel better and you will reshape and put the weight were it should be. Keep going man. I didn't see results for over a month, than it started coming fast and furious. I'd suggest only weighing yourself once a week. The nightly weigh-ins for me were devestating. I would eat well, exercise and then put on 5 lbs. that day. Stay away from that pitfall because it can be discouraging.

i weighed 229 pounds. i am 24 years old

i ran 2 miles a day 4 out of the last 6 days. i rested on the sixth day. i did sit-ups and push-ups for a majority of the day the following day (don't know how many because i didn't count but ALOT! in between commercials of college bball games).

i ran monday, tues and wednesday 2 miles on a track field
and i weighed myself this morning at 6:38 am

i weighed 224 pounds

i ate like a dog, drunk massive amounts of water and powerade and still lost 5 pounds. i lifted zero weights.

9 days. i lost 5 pounds and feel good as you know what

bip - i hear what you're saying. i weigh myself once a week on mondays. so far, i'm towards the end of my 2nd week.

i'm not sure how much i lost, but my body shape has started to change and i feel 100% better. my body is a little sore adjusting to the increased physical activity but it's a good sore.

bigpimpin - how tall are you? man, 24 - of course you can eat like a dog. i'm 30, so if eat like i dog, i'd look like a cow :)

i guess my post has inspired others to get into summer shape. thanks all for the feedback and keep 'em coming. i'll give an update on monday after 2 weeks.

THREE WEEK UPDATE:

starting weight 204.5
1 week later 202.3
2 weeks later 198.2
3 weeks later 196.1

i lost 2 more pounds but that wasn't b/c of exercise. i had to have emergency oral surgery on wednesday and had an infected wisdom tooth pulled. i was on anti-biotics for the past 4 days and ate nothing but soup for 3 days. i was down to 195 by friday night but have finally started eating solids the past two days. i'm feeling pretty good now, so today starts a new week of exercise. softball practice tonight followed by a return to the treadmill tomorrow.

FOUR WEEK UPDATE:

starting weight 204.5
1 week later 202.3
2 weeks later 198.2
3 weeks later 196.1
4 weeks later 190.8

nothing but controlling my diet (cut back on meat, no candy bars, smaller portions), pushups/situps, and the treadmill (about 2.5-3 miles intervals) and the weight is coming off nicely. i'm probably gonna reach a plateau soon but i've changed my target to 185 by memorial day weekend. wish me luck.

ahh yes, the post EVERYBODY's been waiting the whole week for

FIVE WEEK UPDATE:

starting weight 204.5
1 week later 202.3
2 weeks later 198.2
3 weeks later 196.1
4 weeks later 190.8
5 weeks later 189.2

the plateau has sort of been hit but i actually had to eat out at restaurants 4 times in the past 3 days for various occasions and whatnot so my regular diet was kind of in shambles since friday. but still VERY happy with the progress and the 185 target by memorial day is within reach.
