Rank these guys as far as who you'd want most to least on our team: Eddy Curry, Ty Chandler, Kwame Brown, Nene, Chris Wilcox.
I'd put Nene at #1, but the other guys are really hard to rank.

Nene
Chandler
Curry (he would be my # 1 but no shot blocking and his rebounding and defense both suck)
Wilcox
Kwame

Kwame
Wilcox (only because he is too short to play Center)

the best fit for this team right now is chandler b/c he boards and blocks shots.

potentially, the best all around player could be kwame.

the best offensive player is curry.

wilcox and nene will be serviceable but will probably not excel on either the defense or offensive side of the ball.

BUT all of them are better than what we have.

BUT i will not trade sweetney for any of them - sorry but i'd rather have the better player than looking for the right fit since i think that PF glut will be gone after 2 years max.

I'll put
Eddie curry 1 and this is the reasoning.

i think kwame still has the highest potential, but there just something mising there. All of these guys do suffer from the same problem, they didnt go to school, or they didn't stay long enough.
You work hard in CBB, you get a work ethic and become well-rounded. there will always be exceptions, but i think almost EVERY kid could use 2 years in school to learn work ethic, fundamentals, pressure etc.. you have to play hard at top programs, you have to give 100%. In the NBA, you get paid, and there is a lot of immaturity. Really should 18-19 YO kids be hanging out with 25-35 YO? NO! not yet! even these euros, they wouldve been better served staying. these guys suffer from not learning tough work ethic.

Back to the question--Id take Eddie Curry because I feel he can give me a legit 20 points 7 rebounds and shoot 50%+ from the C spot if used properly. I would still go with him over those other guys. If he played with good coaching, motivated vets and a good PG, his stats would be more like

21 pts 7.5 reb 1.4 blocks 54% in 35 minutes.

I'd still be willing to give Sweetney for Curry, but I wouldnt be throwing anything else in the package.

I think Curry's scoring would go up a little bit with a PG like Marbury, but I'm not sure it would go all the way up to 21. Why are you assuming that a good PG would substantially increase Curry's rebounding and shot-blocking?

I have to agree with Bonn, b/c Curry is currently playing with an EXCEPTIONAL PG in Heinrick who could very well become a better player than Marbury in 5 years. So if we're talking about putting him with a better PG, then I think he's fine with Heinrick. However, if we're talking about putting him with better vets to give him a better work ethic, you never know, b/c just look at Tim Thomas.

Personally, I like Sam Dalembert more than most of those guys, but I am also a big Chandler fan. So I know he's not on the list, but I would choose Dalembert or Chandler for rebounding and defense.

Give me a center to play D, rebound, block shots and hit a 15ft jump shot so Sweetney can do his thing in the post.

OK, so my list goes...
ewing
dalembert
chandler
nene
wilcox
kwame
curry

the main reason i demoted kwame and curry is that they'll be expensive to keep, have to be signed long term and big money, kwame less so than eddy. i'll take a chance on the other guys, who i think will be much more reasonable dollar-to-potential, but curry and kwame have too many question marks for what they'll demand (and get). nene and wilcox are serviceable, won't be great, but could be key as members of the right team.

1> Chandler 2> Wilcox 3> Curry 4> Nene 5> Dalembert 6> Brown.

Chandler is Camby, exactly what we need defensively. Wilcox, if given the minutes will blossom. Curry is the most offensively polished, but would be scary after signing a long term deal. Nene has developed, but will be solid throughout his career.

Curry and Kwame are tied for #1 on my list.

Curry- Lots of O with the hope of D and Reb.
Is the best offensive player of the bunch and has the skills and size to rebound and block shots. He could learn that, it would be a gamble, but Id rather gamble on him. What he already has is very difficult to learn, and he just has to get focused to rebound and block.
PLus he's the biggest, you can't teach size and I know what all of your wives and girlfriends tell you but in the NBA size matters ;)

Kwame- Lots of Potential solid O decent D and R, but could be the best.
Still unproven, but still with the greatest upside. A gamble yes, but there are no sure things anywhere as far as big men, Shaq and TDuncan aren't coming. He could be the best all around, with the most refined offensive game, and still be a solid defensive big. Even with only minor progress, he could be solid on both ends. An athletic 12 and 8 guy. He could almost fall into that with our team and 30 minutes a night.

These next guys are mostly rebounding and Defense guys and their skills can be had rather cheaply from guys like Gadzuric and Steven Hunter, which is why I put them below Kwame and Curry. If we were to get Kwame or Curry we could STILL get one of these types (defense and rebounds)of guys for the MLE.

Chandler- Mostly D and R, needs more
you pretty much know what you're getting with him. about 8 to 10 points and rebounds a game and some blocks and shot altering and intimidating in the post. He is a little more developed, all around, than Dalembert, which is why I put him 3rd, but still very far behind Kwame and Curry on the offensive end.

Dalembert- ^^Ditto with less O and less overall awareness. He has a better body than TC though.

Nene is a PF, and we have several better than him already. I would like to get him, but he isn't doing much blocking or rebounding at his size and with his 7-6 wingspan you would kind of expect more. His career high for rebounds is 13 which he has done 4 times in his three year career. That is totally unexceptable considering he isn't brilliant on the offensive end. I'll pass.

Wilcox
I don't know much about him except he is athletic and unpolished. I dont kno about his rebounding and shot blocking but I know he isn't really a center. If he comes cheaply sure.

1) Chandler- by far the best choice for this team. Would be very effective playing next to post up PF's like Sweetney and Taylor. Chandler is an excellent defender who blocks shots, hustles, rebounds and provides excellent athleticism. You can always teach a guy who works hard but you can't necessarily teach a guy to work hard, so that why he's no.1

2) Curry- Has the chance to be absolutely unstoppable in the post. Sometimes he looks downright unguardable, and its worth paying a premium to get a guy who can do that who's only 22-23 years old. Rebounding and D suck, and who knows if they'll get better. Gambling on greatness here...I think he has the bust upside of the group.

3) Wilcox- extremely athletic, can score, has the tools to be a good defender and rebounder is very active out there. Problem with him is he's not a C...he's a PF plain and simple and will never have the frame to play C IMO. Still I like his game and you might be able to get away with playing him next to someone like KT.

4) Nene- Still very raw and mechanical. Not a natural player at all. He does play hard and can block some shots and rebound a little, but he's more of an 6'10-6'11 athlete than a bball player.

5) Brown- I just don't like his game. Doesn't flash enough. Doesn't seem to have good touch. Doesn't show signs of being dominant or even above average in any area IMO. Suppose he's worth a gamble, but unless we're talking 4 or 5 mil a year I would pass.

Nene is the only proven one as far as I'm concerned. Just look at his numbers when Camby goes down. And no he is not mechanic at all. He is a younger Shaq like beast inside. All those others guys have been in the league for years. The only thing they've proven is how big a busts they are.

I should have included Dalembert and Stro Swift in this thread. I forgot about those two.

Well if you go down the chain of events, we now have Marbury instead of Nene. We traded Nene for McDyess, he never really played, then we traded him for Marbury. This is a separate issue, and you can't really say "we had a choice of Marbury or Nene", but let's say we had that choice today.

Would you rather have had Nene for these past 2-3 years or Marbury for the past 1?

In other words, which team do you think would have been better today.. the team that kept Nene, or the team that traded him (and eventually got Marbury because of it). As I said, I know this is hard, because we would probably have made some other moves, but if you could take back that trade, would you?

Edit: Keep in mind, Camby was in that deal too.

Not even close. Nene is nice young player with a lot of upside but Marbury already is a 20/9 star.

I agree.. but I'm sure many will say Marbury is a "loser", and with Nene, we would've had a nice big man to build around, without as many bad contracts as we have had (Penny, TT). Nene would be in his 3rd year as a starting center with virtually no backup, so his development would move more quickly.

However, I'd rather take this team and build around it than a team that had Nene and some other lower caliber players (than Marbury) as its core.

Trust me we'd be a lot better off with Nene and Camby. But then Layden might've still been here so in a way its great that he made that awful trade for Mcdyess
