you will find out TODAY if Jimmy Dolan is gone and that MSG the Rangers and Knicks will be put up for sale. If this does indeed come true, surely you will see a new owner with a NEW business model. The way a corporation runs is sometimes very skewed to the public. You can be taking more than you're supposed to be taking from the till and hide it in a variety of ways. A sole owner of the Knicks will NEVEr pay huge luxury taxes like the one's we will be paying if we continue to raise payroll. IMHO, if we get an owner, you will see a spending freeze with a deliberate plan to cut payroll. Perhaps Isiah made the last two moves knowing that he might not have been able to do anything after the season ends. that would explain why we went after Taylor NOW as opposed to later. But all the talk about ending contracts would , for all intensive purposes be shut down.

The fastest way to cut payroll, is to let the contracts of TT and penny run out. If you figure in small allowances for draft picks and small signings, they can get the payroll back to Earth in two years.

I thought that was a good plan before these trades... basicly let Vin, Mooch, Penny and TT come off the books and just use Nazr in a sign and trade possibly for a guy like Swift.

In some ways it would suck but in the long run it would be positive. This ord MUST use the draft and we would still have MUCH more $$$ resources then every other team in the NBA.

Should be interesting

I think a fresh start is necessary. I really hope the team goes up for sale.

it also depends on who buys it and what their funds are like. Too bad Bill Gates isnt a Knick fan. We could waive the roster and start over.

Oh how I agree with that. The Rangers and the Knicks are a mess, and they NEED an owner with some sense of what's good for the team. It's for the best of all parties involved. Whether this means firing Isiah Thomas or not is not to be seen yet. However, we CAN'T continue adding dead payroll like this. It is getting out of hand. We aren't anywhere near championship calibre right now.

I think if this happens, forcing Allan into retirement will become a major priority to save money.

Let Penny and Timmy walk, and all of the sudden, that's $50 million off the payroll and we're a normal team again.

a few weeks ago I outlined a scenario where Isiah would want a small equity stake. I think that could work given he might be playing with his money, not that funny Cablevision money.

I think a legit payroll for the Knicks will be around 70MM maximum.
It still will be one of the higer payrolls because it has much higher revenues. If they come in with that secondary lux tax over 70MM, no team will be over that amount within two years. basically it would be paying 3-1

I heard the jets owners were interested in the knicks, rangers and MSG, woody johnson would be a good owner, plenty of money but fiscally responsible, the jets have been running great since they took over, they are good at wanting to pay stars, but will not be held hostage by fringe players and their escalating salary demands...

I think the payroll should always be under $300 mil, not counting inflation (approx 15 max contracts)

It would be harder to pull off what he does with the Yankees because of the CBA's interference with capitalism. I'm happy to wait and see how Dolan and Isiah do.
