Tim Thomas, cash & rights to both 1st rounders for Adonal Foyle, Derek Fisher (2 bad contracts) & GS's top 3 pick?

that would give you a realistic shot at a guy like Andrew Bogut, a franchise type C who this team desperately needs.

obviously GS would not likely part w/an overall #1 pick, but if they want to unload those horrible contracts Mullin signed them into last year, they might be willing to part w/it if you included a pair of picks along with cash & big cap space.

at the very worst, you virtually guarantee yourself that you will be able to draft a Chris Taft...not a bad consolation prize by any stretch.

hah in a second! thats the kinda deal Isiah is going to make on draft day. He put too much time into this year's draft not to!

one thing though Golden St would have to draft for us then we can trade because we can't trade our 1st pick this year before the draft I think.

does that still apply if you're just trading picks to move up in the draft? it's not like you're trading away your pick for a veteran player only.

Nope, not that high on Bogut. I rather take my chance with one of the PF/C in the mid to late lottery.

no the GS deal was Claxton and Dale Davis alone for Baron Davis if I remember correctly

One reason I don't think we'll be able to trade up on draft day is that teams are overvaluing draft picks, particularly high ones, right now. You'll notice almost no picks traded hands in these massive player trades on deadline day, certainly no impact picks. I think GMs don't want be the one to miss the next star in the draft, the way so many skipped Wade, Amare or missed a chance at Bron or Melo.

I don't think we'd be able to trade for a top three pick. Also, that trade involves the Knicks taking on $70 million in long term deals between Foyle and Fisher. Isiah would be skewered.

there contracts arent that devastating as a 15mil per year contract for several years would be. Fisher is a good player. Well worth taking a chance on drafting the star we desperately need. I ts not like we're giving up much other than money which isnt our problem.

only if it was the #1... then yes. Otherwise if its a cash deal I would rather just hang onto TT and keep my options open.

One $$$ I would consider along your lines is TT+ cash + the late #1 for Foyal and Petius.

Nope. If we get the 7th pick or higher in the lottery we can still pick Fran Vazquez, Tiago Splitter, Chris Taft, or Aleksandrov. One if these guys will fall on IT's lap.

Then with the PHX pick we can either pick-up Channing Frye, Francisco Garcia or Rudy Fernandez.

Would you do this trade?

Tim Thomas for Brian Grant and their 1st round pick which would be in the late teens.

Grant has a longer contract (1 year) but we get another 1st rounder.

We can then pick Johan Petro, CJ Miles, or Antoine Wright.

No one is trading the top pick. either we win it or we move on to plan B. Plan B, to me, is being aggresive in a draft that may be explosive, that could yield some real fine pieces. But I'm going to doubt *highly* that isiah will be looking at most of the guys you mentioned. Of course they will be looked at, but I see us staying out of that European market. there are some really really exciting skill players in CBB and HS right now, and if Im isah, I probably try to move that Spur pick from 06 into this draft[with protection] and grab 3 guys out of this draft because it will be GOOD. We definitely need a scoring G, a 6th man type, a guy who can come off the bench and rev up the motors like John Starks use to. There are a couple of HS players that are VERy exciting players, and there is another 7 foot american skill player whose family comes from the Soviet Union who also is an exciting prospect. I think we have a lot of big boys right now. I think a couple of exciting athletic guards and a skilled 7 footer will mesh nicely with what we have.

If ITs plan is to surround some athletic skill players with a bunch of BIG BIG BIG bodies I would do the trade I mentioned in a heartbeat.

I think its reasonable that our pick is around 10 and we can get Joey Graham there. Do the GS trade and that gives us BIG physical players at every position, with a nice mix of skill and GREAT athleticism on the wings.

Say TT+ cash + BOTH late #1s from the Rose trade for Foyal and Pietrus
draft Joey Graham with the 10th pick
draft Nate Robinson with the 2nd rounder (move up if needed)

Then you look like

Marbury/Robinson
Crawford/Pietrus
Ariza/Graham
and you rotate in the frontcourt Sweetney, Foyal, JYD, KT, Taylor, Rose
A bunch of BIG WIDE bodies to maul on the glass around very skilled and athletic wing players

so you're telling me the 2weeks he spent in Europe was a waste!

Briggs.. exactly. Foyal isnt what I would call skilled but he does alter shots and is a great guy quality human type like Rose and JYD. Then you add an uber athletic defender in Pietrus and a guy with great size and toughness at the 3 in Graham.

We should be able to find a backup PG in the 2nd round

I would do that trade. The two contracts we'd be getting stink, but would give us a legit backup PG and backup C who blocks shots. Not the worst thing in the world I guess. The top 3 pick is certainly worth it. I think Chris Paul goes somewhere in the top 3 so we'd be able to land Bogut or Sabonis' pupil with that pick.

that's my thinking...even at worst if we ended up w/Taft, the team would still look good going forward w/4 talented young guys to develop around Marbury & some quality veteran role players to keep things stable:

C - KT / Taft / Foyle
PF - Sweetney / Rose / Mo T
SF - Ariza / JYD
SG - Crawford / Penny
PG - Marbury / Fisher
IR - Houston
