Knicks Sign Jermaine Jackson to 10-Day Contract

NEW YORK, February 28, 2005 – New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas announced today that guard Jermaine Jackson has been signed as a free agent to a 10-day contract and center Jackie Butler has been placed on the Injured List with right patella tendinitis.
Jackson, 6-4, 202-pounds, was averaging 20.8 points and 11.8 assists in 14 games for the Great Lakes Storm of the Continental Basketball Association this season. The Detroit, MI-native had won CBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week awards three times over the past two months. In three NBA seasons, Jackson owns career averages of 2.2 points and 1.6 assists in 84 games with the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks.

Butler, 6-10, 250-pounds, was signed as a free agent on Feb. 27 and has yet to appear in a regular season game.

The active roster remains at 12, with two on the Injured List.

i guess they wanted jackie to practice some and get some coaching b4 throwing him out there. this let's isiah sign him and still have space to pick up jackson.

Haha..that's funny...Butler suffers an "injury" the day after we sign him. That's to be expected though...they said he wasn't gonna be able to play right away anyway. All that matters is he gets some time in with our coaching staff, we don't need him on the floor.

LOL, they are lucky, the NBA doesn't monitor injuries like the NFL. Aguirre already admitted he wanted to work with the kid first before he sees any playing time.

I'm not quite sure if he actually suffered an injury just maybe an excuse to not let him play the season and to have Aguirre work on him.

Now will Jermaine dress up and be ready to play or he probably won't see the floor.

I'm pretty sure he didn't suffer an injury. It's just funny how lax is the NBA is with teams making up injuries to stash players on IR....even if the circumstances are so unusual as putting a player on IR the day after you sign him. It's absolutely a fine thing for the Knicks to do though...they don't need to rush him, they just need to have some time to develop him.

Jackson's putting up some awesome CBA numbers...I know that doesn't mean a lot, but its hard to average 20 ppg while sharing the ball to the tune of averaging 11+ assists no matter what league you're in. I wonder how good of a defender he is.
