I know there are many Knick fans that think Sweetney is a going to be a star in this league and he brings alot to the table. I feel Sweetney is good low post score however I feel Malik is a better player. Yes, Sweetney can score in the low box but so can Malik. I feel the advantage of Malik over Sweetney is Malik can guard his man straight up without any help d with his teamates. Malik can also run the break, has a foul line jumper and plays with energy which Sweetney is lacking. My question is who do you think is a better player?

I am not a Sweetney fan but I think Sweetney can become a much better player than Malik Rose. Sweetney hasnt had the chance to prove is worth. Right now, Rose may be better but Sewetney has more future. I dont think he will ever become a star in this league though.

right now Rose is MUCH better than Mike, but you have to start Sweetney for the rest of the season and see what you can get from him. Last night not so good, against Phili good. He's going to be inconsistant but hopefully we get a 25 game look at him for 25-30 minutes and have a better feel for what he can do. Worst case is we pump up his value a little and trade him for a mid-late #1 and get a backup PG or project type center.
Best case is he really blossums and gets comfortable and asserts himself as a force in the paint

The one thing Sweetney desperately needs to do is stay out of foul trouble. He is a monster in the low post, but he just commits too many fouls, whether it be on a highscreen or fouling his man down low.
It's too soon for me to tell right now. I've only seen (okay, I've seen him more, just not payed attention to) Rose for the 9 minutes last night. I was impressed.
If I have to pick one, I guess I give Sweetney the nod. When he gets into foul trouble, bench him. Bring in Rose. Hopefully Mike can learn to avoid the dumb fouls as he goes on, but I have no problem letting Malik play if he fails to do so.

given that malik and sweets both have the same disadvantages (height) and advantages (good bulk, hard working), hopefully malik can teach sweets some things in practice.

sweetney can learn from rose in trying to improve his [sweets] game. starting sweetney for the rest of the season is not a given to see how good sweetney is going be. rose off the bench adds experience, energy and cluth to a period knicks refuse to play.

sweetney will never be an allstar but like Silver said he has a lot more upside than Rose. I still see Sweetney as a 13 & 9 player in the near future and 16 & 11 in his prime which is still pretty damn good but not an allstar. He's too wide and disruptive in the paint to be another Malik Rose. Even if he's a career bench player because of the foul trouble and defensive mistakes he will still be one of the better bench players in the game. I can see him averaging 11pts 7rebs coming off the bench for 28mins.

He's at a much higher level then Malik Rose. Rose can average 15 & 8 as a starter but he's like 6'4'' Crawford was taller last night! So I think just sweetney's size alone at a legitimate 6'8'' gives him a better chance of being a productive starter.

Sweetney would be wise to listen to Malik. Rose completely remade his body from his college days and is the perfect role-model.

great point. I remember Rose being overweight. Now he looks like a different person. its amazing the things he's capable of doing like guarding centers and rebounding at 6'4'' at best!

Interestingly enough, Malik has averaged less than 18 mins a game over his career, and never had a season more than 25 MPG.
That's gotta say something.

I agree. And he was a key contributor and presence off the bench, too
