With the trades made today does Thomas have enough expiring contracts and assets left to make a run at Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler or Eddie Curry?

We'll have to see. We have huge trade assets with three first round picks and $30 mil expiring contracts. I wish the offseason could just start today!

I think best-case scenario, you look at where Philly was last summer before the draft. Iverson was roughly the age Marbs is now, they had a bunch of old, short players and a few young bright spots (dalambert, korver, green). They drafted Igoudala, stuck with a good coach and were able to keep some assets around (expiring contracts, reasonable contracts) to make a move at the deadline.

Best case scenario for the Knicks? Play the young guys (Sweets, Craw, Ariza), find a good coach and give him all the power he needs (aka not a figure head like Lenny), draft smart/well/get a little lucky and find a young big guy for the MLE or part of it. Stephen Hunter is probably an excellent target for the MLE because PHO won't be able to match, as they are worried about having enough money to sign Joe Johnson.

As Isiah made painfully clear today: this team needs SIZE. They need to draft a Shelden Williams or a Chris Taft or god-willing Andrew Bogut and get some size with PHO first rounf pick - maybe Petro falls, maybe Fazekas, you never know.

This team needs a lot of work before we can worry about making that one Webber-type addition.

chitown needs a well seasoned vet for the likes of curry or chandler. brown has shown nothing even worth considering a trade.

there's only 1 hope.. win the lottery and get a top 3 pick. Then if you come away with a Marvin Williams, Bogut or Gerald Green... and impact player you can team w/ Marbury and Crawford. You hope like hell Ariza blossums into a star and you hope you get a coach that can push the 40 undersize powerforwards we have into some kind of tough defensive unit.

It may be also good to hope for a plane crash. Just dont know if it should be the players or front office.

Just hope Isiah uses our assets over the next two years in smart trades to grab players to support Marbury. Then the team will be fine

The only way the Taylor trade makes sense is if Zeke is planning to use Sweets in a deal this summer. IMO, Taylor was acquired to be the replacment post threat off the bench. Do you think Sweets, the no.6 pick and the no.29 pick or so would entice Atlanta to deal us the no.1?

The deal I propose above would be after everyone is picked...

That's the right idea. I think you could get something very good for Sweetney plus three draft picks plus $30 mil in expiring contracts plus the willingness to take on bad contracts

jesus, when are we going to stop being everyone's bailout for their contract mistakes? let's jsut balance the roster and get players who will earn every dollar they get.

If it means getting more stars in addition to bad contracts, then hopefully never. It's amazing how distressed some people get over the fact that Dolan and Cablevision are paying for bad contracts.

You sound like you don't like the idea of trading players with no upside for multiple 1st rd picks

He's crying over the Maurice trade. Understandable. It makes no sense whatsoever. We are now stuck with all these PFs. We are gonna have to make some kind of trade this off season for a center or a 2 guard or something. The trade you were talking about, however, is very good. Not outstanding, but very good. I love Rose as a player, and we will have to see how valueable those 2 first round picks can be. Hopefully, we can use them to trade up in the draft this year.

dude, our roster and rotation have been plagued by players just good enough to earn minutes but not good enough to make us a competitive team for as long as i can remember. are you calling mo taylor a star? are we going to get a star at #29? if taking bad contracts got us stars, we would be champs now. ever since the ewing trade we've done this, and we've gotten worse and worse. keep some perspective. i've supported IT up to now, and i'll still support him and the team. but i think he's made a mistake here.

We have at least as many (and probably more) trade assets this summer as we had when we were able to get Marbury. We should be able to get one star (maybe not quiet at Marbury's level) or two very good players and still use the MLE on a nice role player.
