Van Gundy's Contract Ties

Speaking of compensation, expect the Knicks to put Jeff Van Gundy's next team in a vise before the former New York coach walks an N.B.A. sideline again.

While Van Gundy walked away from two years and nearly $8 million in salary when he stepped down last December, his services are still contractually bound to the Knicks.

Just as Dave Checketts made sure Pat Riley did not leave for nothing — the Knicks received two draft picks and $1 million in 1995 — the current management group will most likely ask for at least a first-round draft pick before allowing Van Gundy to join another franchise.

Well Aldridge his word isn't the gospel, he's wrong this time, as well as his predictions about our cap situation were wrong.

I'm sure the pick will have to be lottery protected, but it will be nice anyway.

We could even trade up for one high pick like Houston did in order to get Eddie Griffin. That was a great trade for both teams. You ever wonder if New Jersey would be better with Griffin or are they better having the 3 rookies and more depth?

Van Gundy still has a contract with the Knicks therefore we own his rights...
