Team also announces return of “The Dave DeBusschere Award” for a second season Knickerbockers to Honor Forwards as Part of ’Hardwood Classics Night Three’ This Thursday
NEW YORK, February 22, 2005 – The New York Knickerbockers will continue their season-long alumni retrospective this Thursday when they honor the players who manned the forward position during their game against the Philadelphia 76ers, as part of “Hardwood Classics Night,” presented by The History Channel. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. The game will be shown nationally on TNT. Among those in attendance for Thursday night’s game will be forwards from virtually every era. The list includes 1950’s and ‘60’s four time All-Star Willie Naulls, ‘60’s three-time All-Star Johnny Green, Knicks third-all-time leading rebounder Charles Oakley, former first round pick and Slam Dunk champion Kenny “Sky” Walker. Others confirmed are 13th all-time leading scorer Gerald Wilkins, Spencer Haywood, Walt Bellamy, Art Heyman, Eddie Lee Wilkins, Hollis Copeland, Campy Russell, Tom Stith and Cal Ramsey.
The team also announced that on Thursday they will begin accepting nominations for the second Dave DeBusschere Award, which will again be given to the top male and female athlete in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The winners were determined by criteria representing the qualities of the late Knick great and NBA Hall of Fame forward: outstanding overall excellence in athletics (not limited to basketball), academics and community service. DeBusschere, a Naismith Basketball Hall-of-Famer and one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history, passed away suddenly on May 14, 2003. Nominations can be submitted online at nyknicks.com, with the winners announced in the spring on MSG Network.
The Knickerbockers honored their guards on December 12 and centers on January 21, and will cap off the season-long tribute series by honoring “New York Basketball Legends” on March 6 vs. the Golden State Warriors.
The team will wear their hardwood classic uniforms from the 1979-80 for the fourth time this season for Thursday’s game. The uniform was worn from 1979-1980 through 1982-83 represents the biggest stylist departure from the traditional Knicks look that is still featured today.

The team gonna wear those pathetic retros again! They suck! They should go back to satin 1960's look, but baggy of course! Those looked nice, those coke-head retros were the bad old days! Can see Ray williams chucking up shots as we speak!
