amare stoudamire in the dunk contest is a microcosm of his season, he needs steve nash to do anything...

he's still DAMN good though :)

josh smith should be illegal. he scored old school points for the love shown for dominique

amare and nash made it interesting with their creativenes. only if amare could have dunked the ball on his initial attempts

jr smith was sort of shortchanged on that first dunk which ultimately cost him a trip to the finals.

man, kenny smith calling out all those guys was awesome. i think we're going to see it next year with lebron. it may be past vince's time, but jrich will be back as well.

jr smith
josh smith
lebron
jrich

that's a damn good field.

My dream dunk contest of today would be:
Kobe Bryant
Steve Francis
Vince Carter
Lebron James
Jason Richardon
Josh Smith (because he's the defending champ)
Some others that would be nice if we wanted a nice big field would be Tracy Mcgrady, Baron Davis (who can still get up when he plays), Ricky Davis, Dwyane Wade, Desmond Mason, and possibly Larry Hughes.
Hell, I'd love to see a huge contest with all of those guys.. a 12 man field.

Yeah that's what I was gonna say.

I really wanna see Tony Allen do this contest.

Lebron will be in it next year to shut up the naysayers.....
Dwayne Wade needs to be in it too....

I agree with you though man.......make it a free for all. Whoever wants to bring it bring it. It would be the greatest contest ever.

Gotta get Spud Webb to teach Boykins a few things, then bring him in.
Realistically, I'd be happy with:
Josh Smith
Jason Richardson
LeBron James
and either Desmond Mason or Richard Jefferson (assuming he can get a little more creative than the last time he was in it)

I personally think, out of that list (and the NBA), Steve Francis is the most exciting dunker, period. He's one of the only players in the NBA with a legitimate 42"+ vertical, he has the ferocity/power to his dunk, he's short so it looks cool, and he is just a great dunker (one of the after-thoughts of the dunk contest with Vince Carter in it). So if I could pick just one dunker to be added, he'd be my man, but wouldn't be too exciting without those other guys.

Pretty good contest over the last few years. Sad to see that there will be no Knicks this year at all

That dunk contest was awesome but if you remember, the last dunk Josh Smith had was Vince Carters first dunk. Chris Anderson did much worse than I thought he would. I wanna see, Carter, Lebron, Kobe, J. Rich and Josh Smith.

Great contest.

Next dunk contest should be:
Earl Boykins
Bruno Sundov
Pavel Podzkoline
Yao Ming

Would be awexome!

Just kidding.

I'd like to see Ariza get in one of these. Maybe something like:

Trevor Ariza
LeBron James
Carmelo Anthony
Josh Smith (defending the championship)
Fred Jones
Darius Miles

... something like that would be an awesome contest.

Great dunk contest.Have to admit I couldnt stop laughing at the whole Chris Andersen fiasco. He was shortchanged lsat year, this year he looked like an extended blooper reel.

I loved it when Josh Smith put on Wilken's old Hawks jersey. His dunks were some of the best Ive seen in the contest in a few years. The hangtime and creativity was great.

First I would expand the field...and make it open invitation...anyone can play as long as the league AND players approve the selection (best way would be on a vote like how the reserves are picked except by players not coaches). Expand the field to 8. Max of 2 "mulligan's" per dunk, because after the first attempt the score goes down anyway. Forget the whole 1 attempt you need to use a teammate, make it totally up to the player. Past Slam Dunk Champs used as judges, because they earned it, but you can't compete after you served as a judge.

(8) 1st round-2 Dunks each, max 2 mulligan's per.
(4) 2nd round-2 Dunks each, max 2 mulligan's per.
(2) 3rd round-3 Dunks each, max 2 mulligan's per.

Each round, players have a time limit of 10 seconds to perform the Dunk. Player must be in motion by expiration of 10 seconds, or it's a DQ.

Here is my dream roster;
Carter
Kobe
LBJ
Josh Smith
Franchise
Flash
JR Smith
Baron

I'm watching espn classic all day.

I'm gonna particularly pay attention to Penny so I can see how the injuries effected his elavation. Isiah commentary is so annoying lol
All he keeps talking about are the players he had in his camp when they were younger and raving about them. Guys who are nothing special like steve smith, baker, kemp and Walker. I bet he looks back on the 98 allstar game and cringes and his own comments lol
