February 16, 2005 -- Knick wannabe Eddie Robinson, spurned by the club three months ago when its medical staff recommended he undergo surgery on a congenital defect in his big toe, is ready to make a comeback after the All-Star break, The Post has learned.
After failing the Knicks' physical Nov. 15, the free-agent Robinson ultimately eschewed the advice of Knicks new medical chief Lisa Callahan and did not undergo surgery on his foot.

Robinson, who was bought out by the Bulls, planned to sit out the season since he was getting paid, but five weeks ago became bored and started working out, with eyes on a 10-day contract. He's extremely athletic and still only 28.

His agent, James Bryant, said yesterday Robinson is now in game shape and has fielded inquiries from five teams, including the Pacers.

Knicks president Isiah Thomas loves Robinson's game and the Knicks are light at swingman, but it may be difficult for him to show renewed interest after the medical team viewed he could have long-term foot problems. The flip side is a 10-day contract is minimal risk. Ten-day contracts only become permissible after Jan. 5.

"Eddie would still love to play for the Knicks, it's still a good fit," Bryant said.

Bryant said Robinson received a second and third opinion in which doctors said he did not need surgery on his toe, the opinion of the Bulls' staff. Robinson, according to Bryant, is not in any pain.

"Everyone said he didn't need surgery except the Knick doctor," Bryant said.

The Knicks were silent on the subject yesterday. Thomas bought out Shandon Anderson in November and reached a tentative agreement with Robinson, 28, pending his physical. Since they turned Robinson away, the Knicks have seen Allan Houston's comeback aborted, Penny Hardaway want out and Tim Thomas experience a horrendous season.

I was just going to post this...

I'd give him a shot with a 10-day contract.

yeah before iit didn't make sense to me but now with TT playing like crap and houston finished for good and Ariza being at least another year away from a starter, I'd give E-Rob a shot.

if he pans out the future rotation will be Marbury, Craw, Ariza and E-Rob. NOT including Penny & H20 thank god. It also would erase the possibility of us getting Al Harrington over a bigman.

waive Bruno or Brewer, sign ERob. I have no problem with this at all. Guys a good defender also.

not that it would've solved all our problems but when tim was SUCKING it up big time early on, erob could've helped us at the 3 spot (to the detriment of ariza).

so instead of being 16-13, we could've possibly been 18-11 before the swoon...

What I'd like to know is whether the management is interested in E-Rob because they think he might be a good young player to invest in in the long-term (which I hope is their reason) or because they're hoping he (and maybe one more deal) can push us to the 8th seed

nah I doubt that. the deal would be made strictly on potential. Low risk high reward kinda thing.

i wonder who would call out of a game first? TT for a broken fingernail or ERob for a sore toe?

jk...i'd much rather take a shot on ERob than have Bruno or Brewer going nothing for this team.

E Rob for a 10 day contract is a no brainer.....He is a super freak as far as running and jumping.....

If he would have passed the physical last time he would have easily became the starter.

The only thing we'll miss from Timmy is his three point shooting....but alot of times Timmy should be taking it inside instead of settling for the jumper. Also Timmy has got to be the biggest sissy in the game.....he shys away from contact when he drives and he always gets knocked off balance. Dude is 6'10" and 240.....wtf?
