They came out the same year and both had fantastic careers- Karl's numbers are obviously better, but having stockton around his whole career might have helped alot. I apologize to anyone that might take umbrage to even asking the question- the current knick squad is killing me- but with Malone retiring today, its a good 'what if'
No way, are you crazy
Yes, numbers alone
Maybe yes- Malone would possibly have brought a championship

"Karl's numbers are obviously better, but having stockton around his whole career might have helped alot."

"Might have"? That's quite an understatement, I think...

no way... Ewing was better and Ewing was a center, a more important position on the court.

Malone's career points...36,928...rebounds...14,968

Ewing's career points...24,815...rebounds...11,607

Insulting to who, Malone?

yea... Malone also outscored MJ and Olajuwan and everyone else.... this topic is retarded. Ewing's teams were better than Malone's and Ewing didnt spend his entire career with one of the best guards to ever play the game.

I think Ewing's physical presence and skills had a greater impact on games.

The one thing Malone had over Ewing is that his body was more durable.

Not even up for discussion. Patrick was New York. Wouldn't change a thing. Still feel bad Ewing never got to finish his career here. Bring him back as a coach. It would make the year great for me.

Ewing had alot of hard nosed basketball players on his teams......he never had a guy that could score at his side. Starks was a nice player but he was playing over his head. Ewing needed a second scorer.

Malone had Stockton and even still Malone always had a second scorer whether it was Hornecek or Jeff Malone, etc.....

Ewing needed some help and he didn't get it. If you look back on it Ewing was a great, great player because he put those Knicks on his back everynight.

Ewing was definitely better. The sad thing is that he got such a bad deal from the media and fans that I bet most non-Knicks fans would say Malone was the better player

If we judged players by stats only, that'd be pretty stupid. What? Tony Delk is a top 10 player in the league because his career high is 50 points? Ewing's and Malone's career numbers PER GAME were not that big of a difference.... Malone simply played longer. Playing with John Stockton in offensive sets that weren't as restrictive as the Knicks' grind it down on defense strategy makes some difference. See Martin, Kenyon and Stoudemire, Amaré for prime examples of two current NBA players showing the difference a good point guard makes.

It's too big a "what if" to contemplate. Both players were the face of their respective franchise for many years. Both enjoyed an enormous amount of success, and if not for Michael Jordan, both would have rings. I'd say we made the right draft choice, and so did Utah.

If we go by career per game averages, Kurt Thomas and Jermaine O'Neal are comparable players.

Patrick was the right choice.

Karl was a hell of a pick! No doubt, but Patrick was blue chip pick!

Yeah, I think Malone was like the 13th pick. He might have been the best player ever selected outside the top 10.

Patrick was all heart. He was a hard-working warrior. I think that because the team has struggled so much over the past four years, we're only now appreciating what Patrick did for the organization.

Dynasty, doggy, dyunasty, not an NBA title, multiple, it would have been too much. Ewing was the better player by far. Karl Malone would have been noticably weakeer without stockton. Stockton made him better and there is really no doubt about that. Had he made Ewing better, they would have been a dynasty.

man what a ridiculous poll. I'm truly offended as a New York Knicks and Patrick Ewing fan

of course Malone's numbers are better! he played a lot more! and he played with another hall of famer! something Ewing never had
