Out of those two, which would you much rather have for Kurt?????? Both have big contracts, but very versatile. Kurt and Coochie to Minnesota for Zserbiak and a pick, or Kurt and Coochie for Rose and a pick...

You're not gonna get a draft pick in either scenario. We get the better player; they get the slightly better contract. I don't think the trade would occur even without draft picks involved, though.

What if we just trade Kurt to Minn just for their draft picks????They already have the big ticket, and most of all, they have been very unlucky in the draft...Having Kurt would be great for them:

Cassell
Spree
Zscerbiak
Kurt
KG

Kurt could guard the Centers. KG would be forced to exert less energy on the defensive end....Kurt could provide whatever he is giving us right now which is more than what they are getting from Kandi and E. J.

Oh, I misread it. Was he saying we give up a draft pick or we get a draft pick? I definitely wouldn't give up a 1st round pick to get them unless it was a very late 1st rd pick

i would give up KT & a 2nd rounder for Wally & a 1st rounder (add filler contract like Moochie to make the dollars match next season)...but other than that, forget it.

I'd do that too (even without the draft picks), but I'd want Wally to be our starting SG with Ariza starting at SF and Jamal playing the 6th man role that Isiah initially brought him here to play. Wally's slow and not a great defensive player to have at SG, but I don't think his defense is worse than Jamal's. And I want Ariza staying in the starting lineup. Maybe it would even make more sense to play Ariza at SG and Wally at SF because Ariza is quicker. But I wouldn't want Wally taking minutes away from Ariza.

i don;t do that deal w/o MIN's 1st rounder...Wally's contract is horrendous.

That doesn't bother me since we're not trying to get under the cap and Wally is still a good player.

Minnesota would be giving us a draft pick....
Then Minnesota would never do the trade.

what are you talking about? do you realize his contract is on the books until 2009? that means you're pretty much guaranteeing that he & Marbury will be eating up the cap for the entire duration...unless we're getting back a 1st round pick, there's no way i agree to a trade of KT for a non-bigman talent.

2009? Big deal! I've already accepted that the Knicks won't be under the cap by 2059, and I don't care because I've never thought cap room was a necessary component of rebuilding.

none of those contracts are close so this isnt even an issue.

Jalen for Kurt doesn't come close
Wally for Kurt doesnt come close either

Cap room is a necessary component of rebuilding. Cap room is not a necessary component of retooling, which is what we and all the other NY sports teams are currently doing without any success.

Really? How many of the recent championship teams got their star player by getting under the salary cap? How many teams under the salary cap are championship contenders?

well, 1 example that can be used is Phoenix...they unloaded big money contracts to get under the cap so they could sign FA's like Quentin Richardson & Steve Nash...now they're a valid championship contender this season...no one knows whether or not they'll win one obviously, but it can't be argued that they're a much better team now than they were last year.

look, there's no set formula for creating a championship team as i've stated several times before...sometimes it's just right time, right place, right players, right chemistry & the right luck a-la the Detroit Pistons last year...but you also can't be totally oblivious to the cap ramifications of moves you make...that's just irresponsible & it's what's led us to our present day situation.
