Houston is done, Crawf is just not ready and he won't be until perhaps 2 years from not, because physically he needs to gain some weight and get a little muscular. If we draft a youngin, he will not be ready until perhaps season after next. So, that leaves us fishing for a big name like Pierce or Walker...Either of the two cna help a team...Pierce is a big game player and N.Y needs that...Walker can be either our SF or PF depends on what Isiah decides to do with Sweetney or Nazr. We can no longer afford to go to season with the hope of having Houston back from his knee injury....The time to act and do something is now.......We will have expiring contracts, but there will not be too many good pieces available next season.....The year that we could have been able to lure a big name to N.Y was this season, but we didn't have anything to offer.....

if toine is available for the MLE, then fine. otherwise, adios. swift will command more than the MLE so he's a sign and trade. for the MLE, i like gadzuric and then hunter.

MLE is meaningless this offseason. We're going to have to use part or all of the MLE to resign Ariza. We're not making any big MLE signings this offseason thanks to that.

ariza can be had for the LLE for two years $3 mil. that'll give us his bird's rights and we can give him a bigger deal after. secondly, we have a team option on him for next year if we can't work anything out. thirdly, marquis daniels got the MLE b/c he played awesome down the stretch last year. unless ariza has an awesome 2nd half, $3 mil should be enough to lock him up for 2 more years using the LLE.

Also, we have an option on Ariza. If we pick it up he's signed for next year making him an RFA early Bird player, meaning we could still match any offer he got. The problem (like w/ Arenas) would be if that offer was more than our MLE, we would be screwed.

I would say if Ariza finishes w/ the 10 points 3 rebs pace he's on as a starter the LLE is a good option. 2 years $3mm and we lock up his bird rights. Ariza isnt a problem

You make it sound as though bringing in Pierce or Walker is the only way this team can succeed. I personally don't like Walker, but I could tolerate him for an MLE contract. Pierce I don't think we have a realistic shot at getting right now, that is, unless you want to give up Marbury.
