I can't seem to find the thread, but it occurred to me
that Briggs had started a thread at the beginning of the
season that asked what would you do if the Knicks started
off with some catastrophic record. No one even answered
the question, everyone was too busy lambasting him that
that such a bad start would be impossible.

Well, here we are.

I seem to remember it being 7-22 or something close to that. Well, it certainly has come true, just not at the start of the season. Those that did answer the question (there were a few) said to trade vets (KT) for youth/picks, play the young guys, and rebuild in the summer with a lotto pick and expiring deals. Don't make panic moves and trade all the assets.

Now that the collapse actually happened, that seems to be by and large the opinion of a lot of posters on these boards. And Knicks management might even agree

Real fans consider all possibilities. Probs to Briggy for thinking.

He never called for it. Just said what if!

We'd be 3-14 if this was the start of the season.

A team should never tank as the damage it does to young players confidence is very bad. Nature will take its course!

If young players make mistakes, and start getting better by seasons end, you have lots of losses, but a bright outlook.

I blame this season on Briggs. He jinxed us. Next yr someone should hypothetically say what would happend if the Knicks won like 60games and won the NBA championship.

Im just playing though about blaming Briggs. But I guess you got your answer.

Even the possibility that the team might eventually do well? I never saw Briggie contemplate that possibility.

Since we have some nice young players and huge trade assets over the next two years, yes. He and Islefan are the only ones who never once said one thing positive about the Knicks

If that guy did ask the question and got chastised (which many do on fan forums) then he a) deserves ab apology and b) deserves an honest response. Well I dont rememeber saying anything bad to Briggs so I wont really apologise () but I will say that I agree with CTKnicksfan. Trade vets for picks and plays Sweets, Ariza often. Dont make any panic moves and trade those expiring contracts for the best offer.

What we have with Penny and TT's expiring contracts are not huge assests right now. They will be extremely valuable in one year (not in the off season) at the 2005-06 season trade deadline. Thats when we can get the best value for those 2 contracts. If those 2 players are traded before then, they wont be considered as huge assests and we wont get as much back in return.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I don't know where you get the huge assets part (oh yea isiah said it.go figure). I don't see any teams giving up 1 of there best players for penny or tim thomas unless you giving up sweetney or ariza and picks.

I'd call $75 mil in expiring contracts over the next two years, draft picks, and good young players huge.

It's that attitude that caused some people to be so upset over losing Lampe and Vujanic to get Marbury. No one should be untradeable. If you can get BETTER young players or draft picks, you do the trade.

Not to mention taking on more long term contracts so that we have zero shot at guys like LeBron, Yao, Wade, etc... when they become free agents. Nice plan.

How about admitting our mistake of the past is that we continue to try to upgrade via trade, but one player doesn't make a team and nobody trades us a pure superstar. Try a new plan, let the bad contracts expire, spend wisely, develop young talent and be patient for a change.

How about try some patience? Try giving Isiah more than one offseason before saying we need a new plan!

On the surface, Isiah has gone to plan B. All in one years time.

I think those expiring deals are a bit overrated. But first things first, most people like what Reezy and Sweets are developing into, and its a start. Bring in a good rookie, and we are building a core.

But lets be real, if Isiah rebuilt last year, and lets say did not take on Marbs, there might have been a few more options.

Getting Reezy really bailed out Isiah. If part luck was needed, so be it, we were due in part for some.

Smells like "team" spirit!

Plan B? What change has Isiah made that indicates he's changed plans? He's made zero trades this year and very few changes to the starting lineup and playing time of players.
