I think Chaney deserved more of a chance with Marbury...but I'm not really sorry for anything. More interested in focusing on the future of this team than apologizing to ex-coaches.
If anything, tell Ewing I'm sorry for those certain fans.

Don Chaney has become a reclusive alcoholic since this event occured.

He refuses to speak to his wife and children if they even mention anything about basketball to him.

All the money in the world can't save him now.

I'm sorry but it wasn't my fault. Signed out of sympathy to the way he was fired but it doesn't concern any of us.

In my opinion Chaney ruined Houston's career.
He ruined McDyess' NY career.
And he did 0 development of his rookies.... mainly Sweets
So he gets absolutely 0 sympathy from me.
You could blame Layden.... which in many ways I do too..
But the Coach is the Coach... He could have done a hellofalot better job than he did.

Chaney got more out of his players than most. He did a good job until Isiah messed him up. Isiah was here to help Chaney. He undermined him and publically embarassed him.

He did a great job in his one full season, the team played good defense and tried hard. More than I can say for our current group of unerachieveing overpaid losers!

he got one good year out of the group.

The year he got fired- he was starting Eisley over Frank Williams and Charlie Ward.

Wait, I was going to say that I had wanted Frank to start then- but where is he now?

The things that got Chaney fired, IMHO:

1) His rotations (probably not entirely his fault) -- Eisley, Shandon Anderson, etc... getting heavy minutes, when we had better options.

2) Fourth quarter play time and setting up the last play -- the last play always revolved around Howard Eisley and Kurt Thomas. Every single time that happened we lost the game with Eisley putting up a 30 foot airball or Kurt Thomas putting up a 20 foot airball.

3) Never said enough in the post-game interviews. Never gave away enough of what he was thinking to give us confidence.

4) Inconsistency, lineup switches, etc... Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward start off having career best years and get moved to the bench for Howard "Worst PG in NBA" Eisley and Antonio "I just came back from a long hiatus" McDyess.

------------

I do feel like Chaney had his share of faults, but some of it was, quite frankly, directly a result of having Layden as your GM and the mandate of make the playoffs or else.

"Howard "Worst PG in NBA" Eisley." I think Moochie would have something to say about that.

What got Chaney fired was his connection to Layden and the losing that accompanied that connection. It's good to see that the Knicks are so much better now that he's gone.

You really think Moochie Norris is worse than Howard Eisley?

I guess you've forgotten the good old days, eh? Moochie is 10x the passer that Eisley is. That alone makes him better, because Eisley excels at NOTHING. :)

Not that argument again. It doesn't really matter. When you compare garbage with garbage, it's still disgusting from both sides of the equations. Neither should be playing anything other than garbage minutes. But I guess if you asked which garbage smells worse, I'd say Moochie. Eisley killed Moochie when the Suns played the Knicks last year. That pretty much settled it for me. Moochie is quicker and a better passer. Eisley's a better defender, shooter, all round player, and Jerry Sloan deemed him playoff rotation worthy, which can't be said about Moochie.

And also. Starting Eisley was to try and get some production out of him because he was providing nothing off the bench, and it did work fairly well. And a lot of his starting lineup decisions have to have come from above.
