Nah, neither of the two players are close to as good as Marbury and the guy you get with the draft pick probably won't be either. Like Fish pointed out, let's at least surround Marbury with one or two decent front court players before we give up on him.

anyone have Marbury's career winning percentage? Not casting judgements, just curious.

Briggs, I would HOPE we could get more for Marbury, but hey, maybe not. An expiring deal doesn't do us the good it did PHO though. PHO got under the cap with McDyess and Ward coming off, unless we can turn around and move Stoudamire for Walker or something, I don't like it.

Now, Marbury for SAR, Telfair and the no. 1 I would do. Depends on what POR plans to do with SAR.

Before this trade would happen, Zeke would have to be fired. No way he is the one to pull the trigger on a deal sending Marbury out of New York.

How about Marbury and Sweetney for Randolph, Telfair, and whatever else to make it work.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Martin, Its about restructuring this organization. I know most people havent seen Sebastian play, but he is going to be more of a steve nash type PG with ben gordon type speed. It gives us a likely second lottery pick for this year and starts to trim our finanicla obligations. We need to be more in the state where the Bulls are, hungry young skill players. What we paid for marbury was essentially 3 number 1s and a number 2. His value is not as high because its going to be hard for most clubs to take in that salary.

I dont think Marbury is a leader, I dont think his character is to great, I dont know if his game translates to winning because it hasnt. Sometimes what appears less=more.

Its a fair deal. Two lottery picks, because Sebastian is one and cap relief, that would be the going fair rate.

I liked the idea of trading Marbury to the Clippers for a package that included Wilcox.

It's not a bad start, but I don't think we get enough in return, in all honesty. If we're trading Marbury, I'd also like them to take Allan Houston and give us some cap relief.

Marbury, Houston/Tim Thomas for Stoudamire, Van Exel, Telfair and a #1.

OR

Marbury, Houston/Tim Thomas, Hardaway for Shareef, Stoudamire, Van Exel, Telfair.

Van Exel is retiring after this season, anyway.

When you look around the league for teams that may be willing to absorb Marbury's salary, Portland may be one of the very few. Doubt that Clippers will be interested. Sterling is a cheap MF, and they have Livingston and may resign Jaric.

Portland has SAR, NVE, Damon, and Ratliff coming off the books at the end of this season. Then they got the mess with D Miles. I have no idea what they're going to go, but if we could do this trade, I'd be ok with that. I'd like to get a big man in return for the best PG in NBA, but that may be a pipe-dream.

As for the draft position this yr, I think this team will have the 5th worst record at the end of the season. What's needed then is for Isiah to trade up, and pray that we hit the jack pot.

to much, are you nuts? remember marbury is owed 85mm$

hes not the best PG in the NBA, lets not over rate Marbury. the going price for someone like Marbury is two picks and a vet, same price the nets paid for carter, carter-marbury no real difference, carter when he tries is the better player and has a better contract

Im getting a lottery pick in telfair and hopefully another lottery pick + stoudemire. that more than enough.

I guess you may be right, but I still want some sort of cap relief in exchange for Marbury.

For example, the Suns got cap relief and two first round picks (you could argue three if you include Lampe) for Marbury. I just wanted the same kind of deal for the Knicks. Then again, it's difficult to expect other teams to be as generous as we were.

I WOULD do that trade, b/c I like Telfairs defense, and he seems just as team oriented as Marbury. He prolly wont be the better player, but like Nash, maybe he's be better for the organization.

However, I said it a million times. Isiah sure is not trading Marbury. They are in bed together, naked, as we speak.

I love this deal. Telfair is ridiculously good and has good character. Once Sebastian gets his jumper, the sky is the limit. I see him becoming an Isiah Thomas-type PG, as Briggs said, Ben Gordon type speed with Steve Nash/JKidd vision. He's going to be a good one.

Marbury and Telfair are cousins, too, so I'd imagine they have similar maturation rates. Marbury won one PSAL championship, Telfair won three. And he's in the NBA earlier. I'd love this move.
