2 really good games from Jamal Crawford got me thinking, who is the best SG in Knick history?

I have been a knick fan for 10 years. 10 years is not long enough to know enough about the teams history. I have only seen a few Knicks teams and a few good SG's. Recent memory, I can list Crawford, Houston, Sprewell and Starks. Each of them have played well for this team.

Crawford is very versatile and shows tremendous promise. Houston has scored a lot of points as a Knick SG and is immensely popular among many fans. Sprewell was very good on defense and extremely effective on offense. Starks was the epitome of heart, hustle and the will to win.

Over the last 10 years I think Sprewell has been the best SG to wear a Knicks uniform just because he could play really good defense on one end and really good offense on the other end. Question to the ultimateknicks fanbase, who is the best SG in Knicks history and why? Where does Crawford rank among them right now?

Note: This is not one of my Anti-Houston rants. I really want to know what most people think.

h20 can be remembered as the 8th seed shooter. starks last 8 seconds with reggie miller makes you wanna forget. spree was a better shooter off the bench but will probably be credited best for shooting his mouth

I'd say Earl and Dick Barnett. Barnett was a real loose chattery guy. His signature line was "Fall back baby." He'd say it to his defender after releasing his shot, BEFORE it had even gone in. I guess there's a lineage of ****y NY SG's from Barnett to Earl to Michal Ray to Starks to Crawford.

Michal Ray was an incredibly gifted player who screwed himself up badly with coke.

I think Jamal's got a long way to go to become a real force in the game on a consistent basis. I don't think there's a single person on this board who hasn't been advocating for him to drive more, dish more and work the mid-game more.

I did a quick lookup for Dick Barnett's stats, the guy could really shoot. In his prime, which lasted about 7 years, he basically shot 47% FG and averaged around 19 points a game. Thats amazing! I guess he is the best Knick SG ever. Althought, Earl Monroe did average 23 points in his first 4 seasons. Its between them.

Earl was such a great slasher and can create anything anywhere.

Allan with his height was able to shoot over most, and do so with grace unmatched.

Dick Barnett was clutch, and had that funky kick.

Micheal Ray was streaky from outside, but ran well and could drive to the hoop.

Next to allan, I'd have to go with Trent Tucker just for the purity of his outside shot. He did little else well.

Best over all was Earl.

Richie Guerin
This guy was really good. He averaged 29.5 points a game in 1961- 1962!! He was also the most well rounded of the above SG's. That same year, with the 30 points, he averaged 6 rebounds and 7 assists. His FG% wasnt good though. Pearl, Barnett or Guerin?

i don't know about greatest, but my favorite is easily John Levell Starks.

the true definition of what us Knick fans love in our players... heart & passion for the uniform.

I'll drink to that.....he loved being a Knick. His heart is unmatched. I think Starks was the best.

Earl "The Black Jesus" Monroe is the obvious vote though cuz he was just a nasty dude with that basketball.

As far as Crawford? When Craw figures out that his game is all about attacking the rim and taking what jumpshots the defense gives him....He eventually will be the best.

It comes down to Earl The Pearl and Ray Williams. Williams played along with Michael Ray Richardson from 1978 thru 84. They were both shooting guards but Michael Ray played point guard. By the time I saw Richie Guerin play, he was at the end of his career and no longer a Knick. The best pure shooter from any position was Bernard King. I am probably one of the longest standing Knick fans on this board and I saw all these guys play.

Bernard King was the Greatest Knick ever....I think it's messed up that they gave up on him like that......King was an unstoppable offensive force when he was with the Knicks.

He's also my all time favorite player.

Starks, Harper, Camby, Tucker, Walker, X-Man, Mase, Oakley, Doc Rivers, Johnny Newman, Gerald Wilkins...these were some of my favorites.

Ray Williams in his best years (around 3) averaged 20 points, around 5 rebounds and around 6 assists. He shot a blistering 47% from the field in those 3 years.

Bernard King's stats are amazing. I have never really looked them up they are unbelieveable. All these Knick SGs in the past shot very well, especially King. He 52% from the field for his CAREER!!! His best FG% year was 1980-81 where he shot 58% from the field averaged 21 points 7 rebounds and 3.5 assists! His best scoring year was 1984-85 where he averaged 33 freaking points per game!! He shot 53% from the field and averaged 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

He has to be the best Knick SG ever! Dude could really score and shoot. Anyone else you guys can rank up there?

Was Bernard King good on defense? If he wasnt good, was he a liability? If he was good, was he better than Starks, Spree etc?

Bernard King played small forward. While he was fairly weak on d, he was incredible offensively. One season, he averaged 32.9 points per game. Over a twelve playoff games in 84, he averaged 34.8 points per game.

Yeah he was a small fwd so it kinda takes away from the thread.

Didn't Bernard average 40 in the playoffs against Boston?

The year he averaged 32 pts he lead the league....he should have won the MVP but of course Bird won........
