the team is up and coming with many good pieces in place. they have a high draft pick this year+12mm in cap room. they probably resign simmons to 5mm per and then have the money for a solid tier FA starting at 7mm+ they get livingston back.

this team will be good. As long as Kaman stays healthy for 75 games, this team next year with some nice additions has a chance to win 50 games.

The clips have rarely let too many players leave that they would have regretted keeping and signing long term.

They could draft better thats for sure.

But Kandi, Miles, to name two are not really lighting it up. They did not let them go for money reasons. They just were not worth the money.

Odom was also always hurt, and not fulfilling his potential. The money Miami threw at him was over the market. Say what you want about the clips, they don't have a bloated payroll and stuck with players with bad contracts.

They traded for brand, and knew about that contract. He is a solid pro to boot. NOt much risk in him. THey are just a player or two from moving up nice, and could eclipse their Arena-mates if they are smart about it. Their owner is not as dumb as many make him out to be.

that means nothing. per the CBA, the minimum salary requirments keep the Clippers around 43mm. do the math and use common sense and it's not ven an isue. The Clippers HAVE to spend 13mm or so next year just to get to the requirement threshold. the clippers should win 50 next year if everything kicks in, heck they should make the playoffs this year with everyone healthy.

the minimum team salary is 75% of the cap. So if the cap is $45-$48mm next year they will only need to have $35mm (ish)

I agree w/ TMS however. Clippers have never cared about winning, only about selling seats and keeping operating costs low. In 20 years they have never demonstrated any commitement to anything aside from turning a profit.

Sounds like the house of Cablevision. Except keeping operating costs low. We can spend like the best of them.

I'd say dollar for dollar the clips get more bang for the buck then our team. Per win that is.

every year you can say the clips are one or two players from being a 50 win team.

And every year, they replace talent that needs to get paid with new picks that have low salaries.

Its easy to replenish talent when you are picking top 8 every year.

The Clips might trade Brand- the question is who offers them the most.

Do you think they'll resign Jaric? What $ do you think he will command next season? Could this team use him? Probably not... he's somewhat inconsistent.

Actually, his career playoff achievements make Marbury look like a heroic playoff performer (exaggeration)

Jaric is a 2-3 mm$ player. he can start or back up Pg at 6-7 and hes still pretty young. Id imagine they resign him for something close to what he makes.

I don't have Brand on the radar, because there is no chance that we trade for him. Even if there was a scintilla of chance he was available, we would be behind ten teams who could offer way more. but like I said hes not going anywhere. No one in the right mind trades a player like that.

Jariks' a good fit for us. He can play 2-3 positions, he defends well, he can handle, great athlete, good in the open court, reasonably young and would be pretty cheap. He's a notorious playboy so my guess is NY would agree with him just fine.

Is Brand realistic? no, do worse trades happen every year? Oh yea.

Think about the Jalen Rose trade to Chi, the Brad Miller sign and trade, the Jamison trade (from GS->Dall). There are too many to think of. Am I saying we can or should count on something like this? No way, but it happens.
