i knew pat riley was high on him. i remember that there was a solid chance that the heat were going to take him @ pick 10 that year, but Caron Butler fell.
they liked him enough to waive a guy they have been grooming for 2 years[jerome beasley and threw wesley person on the IR.

He was playing very well in the pre-season, this could be an utter steal for Miami. They signed him for the year and have an option on him next year at 450,000. they have a great chance of winning this year, but now they have wade -22 wright-18 woods 23 to build off as shaq goes into oblivion in 2 years. they probably sign shaq to a 2-3 yr extension coinciding with jones, then have huge cap space. not a bad way to run things.

Like him or not, Pat Riley knows what he is doing when it comes to basketball. Good signing.

wasn't Woods put on waivers by the Blazers? meaning that any team could claim him, a-la Bruce Bowen when the Heat & Knicks both wanted him but he went to the Heat since they had a slightly worse record at the time? if the Knicks had claimed Woods, wouldn't they have had first crack at him or no? someone clear me up on this.

"riley is "high " on him"!

Good choice of words.

Yes the Knicks could have gotten him. But he gets to pick and choose where he wants to play. Going to the Heat is a great opportunity for him. He will get minutes and have some nice players around him. He won't get much playing behind Marbs, Crawford, and Allan. Allan will be given every chance to test those knees.

i don't see Allan coming back until at least later on in the season if this team has any chance of making the playoffs...Woods would have seen minutes at the backup 2 & some at the backup 3 as well, since both TT & Penny have injury questions of their own right now...but obviously MIA is a better situation for him to go to...i just didn't know he had a choice in the matter if a team claimed him off waivers.
