Before you all think I'm crazy, here's why. He's a 2d round draft pick which means 1 year guaranteed, 2d year option, that's it, no Bird rights. No way Knicks can keep him after Y2 so their only chance would be to offer a 3-year deal at the end of the season (someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the maximum they can offer is the mid-level).
Now, if he plays enough to grow but not enough to shine, fair chance he takes the safe route and signs at the end of the season. But if he shines this season, interset from other teams will peak, he'll chose to wait, and at the end of Y2 Knicks will lose him, just like GS lost Arenas, CLE lost Boozer, etc.
For the future's sake, his playing time should be limited.

This is always a concern, but It's a bit too late to hide his talent at this point. That said, he's not worth more than the full MLE yet unless he really explodes next year, which he may or may not, especially if the Knicks draft/trade for a swingman/SF in the offseason. Let the kid play and we'll see what happens.

I think it will be kinda sad to think that the Knicks ever consider not playing a guy just because they are trying to "keep" him

but i guess i do see what you are saying even if, well nevermind

Then we extend him with a MLE. Thats still a lot of money, and an opt out perhaps can be installed in the event he turns into grant hill (with not ankle problem)

Cant save the talent and keep it down for financial reasons. Him and his agent would talk about the possibility of this, and thus a commitment form the knicks that he would be taken care of, and that he will get the playing time to develope.

the whole reverse psychology thing really doesn't work.

If a player does NOT get the deserved playing time, he will leave because of not getting the chance to play.

Best thing for everyone to do is play there best - organizationally and individually - every time.

I got tired of Playa - he wasted too much of my mod time.

Just so you know, I'm not Playa. Most of my days are hectic, which is why I don't post much.

Ariza shouldn't be gettin the the full MLE. If I was Zeke I would try to sign him to a 15th pick rookie contract but start it at its second year second year pay scale for 4 years. That seems fair. I like him and think he has potential but fuill MLE seems a lil crazy.

Marquis Daniels averaged about 20 PPG for the last month or two of the season and Dallas was still able to retain him for the MLE. I don't think Ariza will put up bigger #s than that

we have tons of options w/ Ariza. We can extend him w/ the LLE this offseason meaning we have him for 3 years and his Bird rights. We can use some of the MLE to extend him. We also have an option for him next year, so we can use that and have early Bird rights, meaning we can still match any offers. Is Ariza going to get more money than James Posey, Marquis Daniels or even Darius Miles? I dont think so. Either way Knicks are in the drivers seat, and any agent knows his client has a better chance of getting more money here than anywhere else. Last I checked the Knicks werent a stingy franchise

The collective bargining agreement with the players and owners is up for renewal after this season. Things are going to change where ariza will lose his right to become free after 2 yrs- thats my opinion why he wasn't signed to a longer contact.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

unless he proves himself as a defensive stopper, he's free to go.

Great point. I'm sure the owners will close this gap in the negotiations, even if Ewing/Spree will again claim that they need to "provide food for their family"
