I was worried about him as soon as I heard he had an injury severe enough to require microfracture surgery. NBA players just don't fully recover from that--even ones who are ten years younger than Houston and were much more athletic to begin with. But Allan's made basically no progress in two years now. It would probably be the best thing he could do for the Knicks too since the team would get an injury exception, which would be a valuable trade asset. It might be the best thing he could do for himself too if he wants to be able to walk without pain for the rest of his life.

He looked good the first part of last season when he rusehed his comback. I suspsect there is more to it than has been reported, but basically he has been back less than 20 games. I think if you look a Dice, and Cwebb, its a very long process, one that he rushed back, and perhaps had to start over with rehab all over again.

There will come a time when you question could be valid, but 20 games might be premature. I think the real plan was for him to work his way in to a team that was doing better than this last 9 game stretch of horror.

If allan wuould walk away from thet kind of money I doubt it. I don't think they are close to begin a buy out situation. It all carries on the books and we get no relief.

Lests see how he does after another 40 games and see if he is progressing. That would still only be a half a season for him.

He didn't really look good for any extended stretch last year. He had an occasional good game, which I think he could still have because he shoots well. Webber's much younger and was much more athletic to begin with. So, I'm not surprised that he's had a better recovery than Allan's been having after 2 years. Dice had a completely different injury; the comparison is useless.

I'm sure he'd workout some buyout agreement where he took less than $57 mil but still a lot of money (maybe $30 mil) and could retire and spend the rest of his life able to walk without pain

if he retires he still gets the loot. The only way it happens is if he reinjures himself

Actually its a not so cut and dry situation....

If a player retires, even for medical reasons, his team DOES NOT receive a salary cap exception to acquire a replacement player.

And...

his salary comes off a teams cap...when a player is forced to retire for medical reasons and a league-appointed physician confirms that he is medically unfit to continue playing. There is a waiting period of two years...

I believe he's going to get better.... his knee might not ever be 100% re-healed, but he's going to be better than he is currently....
webber isn't much younger, he's a 31 year old player. And houston at the beginning of his career was pretty athletic, he just never was the flashy type at all...

Add me to the list of people saying he was done all through the summer. What a waste.

How did Houston originally injure his knee? All I remember was him having his best year of his career and then three weeks later having to have microfracture surgery

Damn!! He can never do anything to help us other than:
1) have a sweet jumper
b) score 50 points 2 times...

He was playing through a ton of soarness in his back and legs and ankles that entire season. The surgery surprised me too, but I do remember him playing through some pain for 82 games. I still don't know why he didn't gain the respect of fans after that season.

because he's supposably a "deadly shooter" at 44% when Wally,Allen,Reggie and even Artest shoot for a higher percentage yet was paid $100mil because he supposably he has a sweet jumper but can't do anything else which is why his career FG% is only 44%
