BULLISH ON STEPH: Scott Skiles, who coached Stephon Marbury for 51 games in Phoenix during the 2001-02 season, called Marbury "one of the top point guards.

"That year in Phoenix he had two bad ankles that he battled all year long," said Skiles, the Bulls' coach. "I know he went through a lot that year with Jason (Kidd) in New Jersey playing so well. Steph was nicked up, we weren't playing as well. I know that had an effect on his psyche.

"He's right there as one of the top point guards, there is no doubt about it. He's explosive, he can score. That year in Phoenix you could call it a down year for him. I think it was more due to his injuries than anything else."

Marbury has been complimentary of Skiles in the past, while Kidd has bashed his former coach as a "backstabber."

"I don't feel like I ever had a problem with (Marbury)," Skiles added. "But I don't feel I ever had a problem with Jason but apparently I did. I like Steph and I enjoyed coaching him, too."

I guess Playa missed this article, huh?
This means alot coming from a former coach.

from what I read about skiles responses on jason kidd cursing him and yelling at him, it is obvious that scott is a man that does not try to stir up verbal battles through the media. He obviously has the character and intelligence not to do that.

not really; I'm just saying that asking skiles his opinion on marbury/kidd doesn't really help either one's case a lot.

It saddens me that NYK fans need past approval of it players to determine if the are good. You see them play judge for yourself and come to you own conclusion on a player abilites.

Its not really looking for approval. People bad mouth Marbury all the time and their disapproval never discourages the Knick fans. This is just an example, not a prop or a crutch.

I have judged for myself jerky. I just posted what I thought was an interesting article. People are so quick to post some negative things about marbury, and when the talk about his time in phoenix comes around, I had never heard mention of ankle injuries.

I am very clear on how I feel about marbury. I think he is an incredible player. his ability to get to the whole and finish is uncanny. He was my favorite player before we got him so I am too siked that we got him. Some morons on this board seem to think he is holding back guys like KT and Nazr.
Skiles actually did say some things about Jason Kidd in the paper about how if he wants to play him one on one one day he'll suit up anytime and blah, blah, blah. I heard it when I watched the nets play the bulls. I just thought it was interesting to hear what an ex-coach had to say about him. Don't you?
