To save everyone from committing suicide.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/13/sports/basketball/13knicks.html
I think that this article pretty much says it all:
At their best, the Knicks are the energetic, high-scoring, entertainment machine Thomas promised, as seen in victories over Denver, Orlando and Minnesota. At their worst, they are dysfunctional and defensively bereft, as seen in blowout losses to Cleveland, Dallas and Toronto.

...

It should not be surprising when they win four games in a row, then lose five of six, as they recently did. They were rightfully embarrassed by last Saturday's 25-point loss in Cleveland and bewildered by Tuesday's stunning loss to the lowly New Orleans Hornets.

What the Knicks are not, is panicky.

...

The Knicks have gone 4-5 since they lost Jamal Crawford, their most creative player, to a toe injury. They are 1-3 since Mike Sweetney joined Crawford on the bench.

...

Thomas's next best opportunity to make a splash will not come until July, when Penny Hardaway, Tim Thomas, Moochie Norris and Vin Baker head into the final year of their contracts. Teams looking to dump a high-salaried player might be coaxed into taking Hardaway ($15.8 million) or Thomas ($14 million) because their contracts would come off the payroll in 2006.

I fully understand that it is therapy to always call for the heads of everyone on the team that puts in solid effort every game (kurt thomas), shows unlimited heart (marbs), plain gives it their all (nazr) and teaches/preaches professionalism (lenny), but we have to be realistic...3 of our best players are injured. While TT may not be giving what he should, he was still giving us 15 ppg before the injury.

And yes, H20 is a gimp...but he's supposed to be coming off the bench, not logging 35 minutes.

And Marbs...he played in the olympics, played the most minutes last season and is still giving us his career 20/10.

So, let's wait until sweets, crawford, TT and yes, even Penny come back and we are full strength before we trade away the only players giving us their all.

And, keep in mind that this is therapy and thank the stars none of you guys are GM's for the knicks...because for every other week we would have Dalembart (overrated), Kwame Brown (a tall tim thomas) or Webber (a tall h20).

Love you guys, and thanks for keeping the season sane between games.

I'll pass on the analysis. Our boys spoke loud and clear with their play.

I am sorry your defense of them only brought out laughter from me.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Its a fair comment.

Playa, sorry, I know you'd rather go in shredding mode, but those days are gone.

Is allan really going to be a gimp the rest of his career? or are we just extrapolating the last 17 games into the deep future?

You know I forgot what Allan could do- its been so long since he was healthy.

I think the thing that upsets people is this team is so inconsistent- and for so many games.

I get the feeling we've probably had more blow out wins and losses this year than last. How can a team do that?

ignoring the injuries...what the heck is wrong with Penny?
I could see penny starting in place of JYD big time.

Not sure why he is sulking.

Allan's three to tie up Philly gave a glimpse that the boy is still a player. Not many humans can hit that shot at that time, yet alone with weak knee.

Its been very long, but it was prescribed that itwould take time and there will be walls he will hit. He dropped 25 the other nite and was incredible! He is starting to drive to the basket!

Those are encouraging signs. We seem to expect nothing but greatness, but its a long process. I am encouraged. The glass is half full! My expectations were more realistic than some I think.

His shot is so pretty I also forget how good he was, and until otherwise noted, still have hope he can regain MOST of it back.

h20 and TT are combined, the answer we need.
JYD is DEFINITELY a short term solution.

TT will return and build on the 15 ppg he was providing, H20 will no longer be starting as Crawford is that spark that JYD provided.

And JYD will come off the bench with our high energy squad of him and ariza and sweets and h20 will play the two man game post-spot up three.

start: marbs, craw, tt, kt, nazr
bench: h20, ariz, jyd, sweets

My concern is Penny...if he doesn't get back soon (mentally and physically), we could lose marbs to injury before you know it.

I can't remember when I was this involved with every knick game...thanks for UltimiateKnicks...i don't know how i got by without it.

i think the salaries to move are nazr, vin, and moochie at like $11 mil. i say we bite the bullet and just let tim and penny's deal come off the books after 05/06.

What this team needs to do is go to the youth movement. When everyone is healthy go to Ariza, Sweetney, Nazr, Crawford and Marbury lineup. This will still get the corporate goal of playoffs. This will also get the youth moving faster into the right direction. With the veteran backups I can't see this team not make the playoffs.

houston needs time but will come back. I expect him to fare much better when craw will play in front of him, getting most of th pressure.

H20 will be able to get along quietly and at a safe pace.

We're a work in progress. At the beginning of last season, we had no hope for progress.

Next offseason, we'll just have to make some other steps in the right direction.
