Webber misses game for short-handed Kings with sore knee

January 11, 2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Chris Webber missed Sacramento's game against Denver on Tuesday night with a sore left knee, leaving the Kings with just nine players in uniform.

Webber missed his third game of the season with soreness in his knee, which still hasn't fully recovered from microfracture surgery after the 2003 playoffs. Webber, who missed all but 24 games of last season following the surgery, was scratched from Tuesday's lineup moments before game time.

Webber, a five-time All-Star, leads the Kings this season with 20.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, along with 4.9 assists.

If he came cheaply maybe but he can't come cheaply, his contract is crazy. I'm solidly convinced we dont need him. Not that he couldn't help, but I don't think hes what we need. The list of players we need is getting shorter IMO because we need a shot blocker badly.

None of our bigs can jump. Nazr gets in a good position and jumps for the block, but he just doesn't have the hops that are neccasary. We need any player who fits this description:

6-10 or larger (nazr fits this)
shot blocker
rebounder (nazr fits this)
intimidator

Package Nazr in a trade for a player like this. We absolutely NEED this because we cannot keep people out of the paint. No one in the league can guard steph, but we have watched Shaq and Big Z do a good job of keeping him out of the paint most of the time. I can't wait to see how Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler perform against us. I am slowly beginning to think either of them would be perfect for us, although I still like Eddy Curry better.

Dalembert and Swift also come to mind.
As much as I hate to say it, Camby would be great for us as well.
WE HAVE TO GET ONE OF THESE GUYS!!!!!
or someone like them

As far as I am concerned, as long as we won't have to let go of: Marb, Nazr, Sweetney, Ariza, JYD, we can afford to do this trade. One thing is for sure, Webb has at least three good years left in him. With the right talents around him, this Knicks team minus Lenny and Kurt Thomas can compete with the best of them. For sure what happened last night would not have been if Webb was with our squad.

Marb, Houston or Crawf, JYD for energy and defense, Webb, and Nazr

Brewer for defense, Penny if not traded, Ariza for defense, Sweetney, and Vinny

that right there would be a pretty solid squad.

If TT is traded trying to acquire a player like Jimmy Jackson would be the ideal way to go.

Kurt, TT, Penny, Moochie, Sundov are all expendable. If we have to include a young talent like Sweetney to obtain Webb, by all means do it. We can draft another PF or young Center to mold for the future. We have to try to use Marb youth to the max while he is still healthy.

webber has a fu.... knee. That trade will blow to our face when he'll need a weelchair next yr.

How many injured superstars will we need to stop dreaming about those big names on the downhill ?

We can afford Webb. Think about it this way, granted that Webb has a bad knee, he will last much longer than Houston at the position that he plays. He has restructured his game to fit his physical abilities. He doesn't have the athleticism that he once has, but his basketball savvy made him an even better player. 3 good years out of Webb, minus some of the crazy contracts that we currently have, with either Penny or TT's contrace off the book next season will do us a lot of good. Even when Webb is not to healthy, he is still posting better numbers than Rasheed and a lot of big men in the game

SEASON STATS: PER GAME | TOTAL | PER 48 MINUTES REBOUNDS
YEAR G GS MIN FG FG% 3P 3P% FT FT% STL BLK TO PF OFF DEF TOT AST PTS
2004-2005 30 30 35.7 8.9-20.0 .447 0.1-0.4 .308 2.9-3.8 .779 1.37 0.7 3.0 3.1 2.0 7.3 9.3 4.9 20.9

a championship solution for the Knicks would have been to draft Amare Stoudamire then tank in 02-03 and try to draft Wade, Bron or Melo. Until people wise up and the someone at MSG TRULY has vision, we will be mired in mediocrity and begging like a dog for other teams' scraps.

We won't see the other side of 50 wins until we do this. Meanwhile, Lebron is headed to 50 wins on a team of role players. Amare is headed to 68 wins or more on a team that granted is stacked, but not so stacked without Amare.

Trading for Chris Webber is just going to perpetuate this crappy cycle. Hey, it might even get them 50 wins for one season, but it won't mean anything because they won't be a real contender and it will be one good season. This is another great draft, and the Knicks will get a decent 15-16-17 pick. Meanwhile, the Nets will now get a top five pick to add to Carter, Kidd and Jefferson. Sometimes, you need to tank. Obviously, I'm not blaming Zeke, Layden could've tanked to draft in the two best drafts in YEARS, but no, we struggled and wrung every bit of talent out of 30 and 38 win teams. What a waste.

I'm down to get Webber......now that Sactwon has a second scorer behind Peja in Cuttino......maybe they would want some role players to retool the team.

KT comes to mind......so does Timmy and Moochie.....just as long as the Knicks don't give up Craw, Marbs, JYD, Nazr, or Reezy

If we trade TT, Kurt, and Penny to Sac town for Webb, that would give them two expiring contracts that they can use to retool with next season. sure they are not able to replace Webb, but they will get cap relief. Meanwhile, our cap space would have also improved minus those three names...

Webb would have only cost us 61 million while we would have gained 15 millions to play with. With that 15 millions, we could have resigned Ariza to a decent contract and acquire a decent Center to back Nazr.

wouldn't that have been ideal...too bad tanking the season is considered unethical around these parts.

That's too much money involved....

I was thinking maybe Timmy, KT and Moochie for Webber, Ostertag and Bobby Jackson.....

Sactown just signed Eddie House and he could replace Bobby cuz House's whole game is made for Bobbi's role.

Plus they got Cuttino so he will be in there more cuz he can flat out score more than Christie.

KT could easily start or come off the bench for Songala or Miller......that would be a nice thing to have....then Tim Thomas will most likely be driven by the trade and could be a major contributor for them.

The Knicks get Webber.....Bobby would be a free agent....and Ostertag would be 6 fouls.

Knicks would have Webber, JYD, Nazr, Steph and Craw.......Webber would take on KT's role except Webber can actually handle the ball enough to beat someone to the rack if they stop the pick and role.

Webber is also tough scoring on the inside.

could work......

Timmy is definately not doing his job in NYC. JYD has proved that he is more than capable.
