Would you as a GM in the NBA give him a chance to play again if he does well in the CBA?

Get him on the cheap and he becomes a low post defender and rebounding machine.

Two-time NBA all-star Jayson Williams, who was acquitted in April of aggravated manslaughter charges in the shooting death of a limousine driver, is reportedly set to make a comeback in the Continental Basketball League with the Idaho Stampede ...

I dont know... his upside isnt enough where its worth having the world's greatest scumbag on your team. If he was 27 its a different story, but how low are you stooping to signing a 35 year old dog killing driver killing punk like this? Whats that tell the guys on your current roster, or potential FAs?

No... just not worth it and the negative ripple effect. Sometimes you just have to look past a potential short term benefit.

Yeah his re-trial is supposed to be in the next few months, if I recall correctly.

I'd sign him to a 10-day if he was a CBA standout.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Everybody needs a second chance,'' said Idaho Stampede season ticket holder Don Young. ``If he was a carpenter or a car salesman, somebody would hire him. He plays basketball, this is what he does.''

Jayson Williams began his comeback bid Wednesday night.

The former NBA All-Star scored two points and grabbed four rebounds in limited action just hours after signing a contract with the Idaho Stampede of the Continental Basketball Association.

Williams, who turns 37 next month, quit professional basketball in 2000 because of knee problems.

``Interested NBA teams want assurances that I am fully recovered and can withstand the rigors of daily competition,'' Williams said in a statement Wednesday. ``The very competitive CBA will provide me with this opportunity.''

The 6-foot-10 forward did not start Wednesday's game against the Yakima Sun Kings, but was the first man off the bench in both halves of Idaho's 117-109 win, playing more than nine minutes. He drew a polite cheer from the announced crowd of 2,367 when he first took the floor about midway through the first quarter.

``I felt great. I really appreciated it. I was a little rusty,'' Williams said after the game. ``I'm glad we got a win. These guys look awesome.''

Williams appeared to run without problems and was going out of his way to be gracious, at one point profusely thanking a towel girl. He exchanged handshakes and hugs with members of the Sun Kings at halfcourt after the game, and was the last to leave the autograph table.

Idaho head coach Joe Wolf, who played against Williams in the NBA, said Williams hadn't had a chance to practice with the team before the game. ``He hasn't run our sets. But he showed tremendous energy. I expect a lot from him,'' Wolf said.

Williams, who made a name for himself in the NBA with his rebounding, grabbed four rebounds Wednesday night, all defensive.

I wouldn't. The guy just got paid, what, $90 million dollars to NOT play basketball because of his "career-ending" injury? Now the money's dried up and he's suddenly healthy enough to play? And this is not even mentioning his shooting incident, which alone would make me not want him.

If someone dude kills a man and then cries his heart out cause he is "sorry", he is still a criminal. The worst part is that he didnt have to pay for his crime cause he had a lot of money saved him. Roll your eyes and Shake your head all you want playa but I would rather not have any homicidal maniacs playing basketball for the Knicks.

If we lived in a world were only results mattered, then I might agree with you Playa that whoring yourself out for a few rebounds on a .500 team might seem like a good idea. I for one are taking a very pias family oriented view that I don't want to cheer for some dumb murderous fool. Look, its not like he meant to shoot him, and but the dude has been long very full of himself and was reckless resulting in a killing. I don't feel sorry for him, but I don't have to see him on my team. So roll your eyes and root for him on the lakers, or on Minny who need him more than we do.

Stern might get lucky there, he can get Jayson all drunk and get him a few guns and maybe he will shoot Spree for him!

What I realize now by looking over many threads is that you post things that aren't relevant to the original threads just to kill them.

Peace out you soldier of misfortune.
