I was on your case regarding your previous SAR fetish but he's a terrific fit to put with Marbury. If you can put some defenders on the court around his a duo of SAR/Marbury would be pretty nasty in the East.

What do you think of a TT/Nazr/rights to 2005 #1 for SAR/Patterson resigning SAR starting at $10mm (ish) this offseason

You could still throw the MLE at Steven Hunter.

Marbury
Crawford/Houston
Patterson/Ariza
SAR/Sweetney/JYD
Hunter/Baker

I would just keep Penny/Moochie/Baker around in case of a Feb firesale. You could also play KT behind Hunter. I always hated him at center but as backup its a different story

I like SAR alot and he could be nasty, but losing Nazr will hurt us on the boards. KT at center? Please not again!! Vinny as our starter, Steven Hunter as our starter, nah. Nazr should stay if at all possible and I believe it is possible.

yeah i would do all of thatthat would leave us at

C- Hunter 7-0 240
PF Rahim 6-9 240
SF Patterson 6-5 225
SG Crawford 6-5 180
PG Marbury 6-2 200
C Thomas 6-9 240
PF Sweetney 6-8 260
F Ariza 6-8 200
G Houston 6-6 225
need back up PG

that would be much improved.

i would not make that trade...SAR doesn't play D & that's what we need right now...plus losing Nazr would hurt us on the boards, another area of weakness...& i'd like to hold onto the 1st rounder unless we get a talented young C to replace Nazr in the middle.

If the NBA permits a team to trade draft rights to circumvent the rule prohibiting trading first round picks in consecutive seasons, I would like to see link. Otherwise, I think it's bull.

knicks would make selection, then trade rights to player. you could not do this now, unless portland was willing to do it without the pick for nazr

ratliff absolutely stinks i never liked him, and now they re-upped him for 10mm per 3-4 years

I think miles is their answer long term at SF with outlaw as a back up. They could use Nazr as their starting C and TT as the back up 4-3-2 as well--they have no guards.

i understand not wanting to tade the pick and there is no doubt that acquiring Hunter in FA would be a must. These arent young players, but still I think both sar and ruben have 3 prime yeare left. i would'nt give sar more than 3-4 years 8-9mm per

we need a post up 4 badly and if we are going to keep band aiding this together, its not a bad move.

Patterson and Hunter would help our defense a lot+rahim is still a big PF with solid athletiscm.

i'd rather give more minutes to Sweets at PF to see if he's the real deal or just a role player, trade KT or Nazr for a talented young C if we can, & hold onto the pick as insurance in case Sweetney is not the permanent answer at the 4 going forward...that way, combined w/the expiring contracts & young players we currently have, we would still have some pieces to work out a bigger trade for someone like an Elton Brand.

If you can get Hunter I really like that move.

I still think the Knicks need to make moves for defensive players. Marbury, Houston and Crawford provide so much scoring that I think the team would be pretty efficient with defensive-minded players elsewhere.

Looking at that squad, first I wouldn't trade the pick (they're getting a pretty nice player in Nazr and TT is a contract coming off so I wouldn't look to give them more. I like D'Or Fisher, the C for WV that Briggs pointed out a while ago. He's a talented shot blocker who I'd love to bring off the bench.

Hopefully they move KT, his value has peaked.

First off SAR is only 28, thats a year older than Nazr.
Second he is a career 20 and 8 guy.
Right now he is in the top 15 in fg% and ft%
He is avging 15 and 8. We could definitely use him and he could be our answer with steph and craw for the next 4 or 5 years.
JYD/Ariza at the 3 and ee would just need that Center who is athletic and a defensive presence. We really wouldn't need an eddy curry or Kwame type with Shareef, but it would still be nice. We could use a Dalembert, Steve Hunter, Chandler, Gadzuric type player to off set our low post presence in SAR.

Rich.. the rule is you trade consecutive picks. The only reason for the rule is to prevent inept GMs from trading multiple consecutive picks. Remember, just because you draft a guy doesnt mean you have to sign him either.

This happens every year... its why there are so many draft day trades

I don't think you should need to include the pick.

But- what is Portland going to do with Rahim & Stoudamire? Both contracts end this year, correct?

And this goes to the heart of whether ending contracts are worth anything or not.
