shocker. Kobe may be the most backwards guy but nobody plays harder. But its the GMs fault for not keeping teams competitive. To bad they cant sue for backpay.

Well if that doesn't fill the kids who admire them with inspiration, what will?

I would bet more players in the NBA are in the same catergory but aren't man enought to fess up.

Especially on our beloved knick team.

What is it with you and your love affair with Vince Carter? Would you consider a visit to a therapist - or a move to New Jersey?

i would break my back for that sorry Orlando team either. The franchise was in disarray, instead of you having admiration for McGrady's honesty and courage... you chose to make a personal attack on him and his relative

shame on you

you think he was the only one who dogged it on that varsity team?

management dogged the fans too

Well just to get closer to Wince - no further comment about Jersey intended.

yes shame on me.. only varsity teams play because they love the game. Sorry, but TMac quit on his coach, just like Vince quit on his team.

Team disarray? Are you serious? Do players still get paid when they are hurt? What about when the have a bad shooting week? Do they get paid then? Image "earning" $15mm a year. Thats close to 200k for one regular season game. Sorry, I thought being a "max" player and a star player meant when injuries and other problems were happening you could step up can carry the team at some level. 17 games in row. That pretty much says it.

Shame on me indeed

is this really a newsflash? as if no knick players have ever slacked off in games either? Marbury's slacked off plenty of times, as has Tim Thomas, KT, & almost all the rest of them...the only players on the Knicks that i can honestly say i could never picture taking a night off is JYD & Ariza.

Shortly after Vince Carter confessed to not always giving it his all on the basketball court, his cousin, Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady, admitted that he too experienced nights when he refused to rev up the engine, telling Sports Illustrated magazine recently that "some nights I did slack off" while adding that "I'm not going to sit here and say I played my hardest every night."
McGrady was subsequently hammered by fans in Orlando, where he once played, and by some members of the Orlando media.

On the other hand, there have been suggestions that Carter and McGrady are only being honest, that everyone should stop shooting the messenger because taking nights off in the NBA is a regular occurrence, given the toughness of the regular season schedule.

Veteran Detroit Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace, for one, believes that the cousins are being falsely vilified.

"There's going to be times when people say it looked like we weren't going hard, because it happens," Wallace told the Detroit Free Press.

"I don't know (any one) in this league who goes hard for 82 games, plus the playoffs."

You know what? There's probably a lot of truth to that. It's generally agreed that there are too many games in the NBA and NHL and it's impossible for players, who constantly crisscross the continent, to be able to play hard every single game.

So dump on Carter for being a wimp and a whiner. But when he says that he didn't always give it 100% ... Well, he's probably not alone.

NUFF SAID!

yeah shame on you

shame on t-mac and shame on management

now do you see how ez that was. you want him to play hard to satisfy some guy named fishmike right
but you give management a pass for shoving scrubs down his throat and the throat of fans but still getting paid too

i think you are upset that t-mac got paid, admitted he slacked (not quit) and you can't do anything about it

i've seen your type before

Did Jordan ever "coast" ??? Did Ewing? Starks? Oakley? Did Hakeem? I'm sure tons of NBA players have. The thing with VC is he's always hurt and doesnt play hurt and isnt tough. That affects your whole team. When your mates see the best player mail it in because he's not feeling well or isnt have a good night it makes for bad chemistry. But then again VC hasnt done much in recent years to prove he isnt a loser anyhow.

Playing hard means giving all you can when you can. I've gone into work not feeling 100% for a company that wasn't worth giving 100% to, but when called on, i always give my best.

it's easy to always try your hardest, not always trying your best is alot harder to accomplish.

While tim thomas looks like a deer lost in headlights, he does seem to be trying to score...i don't think he knows how to try and rebound. But it still looks like he's trying all the time...

Unfortunately, because we are the knicks, every player tried their hardest (last year mcgrady killed us and this year vince came to play), and the crowd will let a player know asap if they are not giving their all at home...so I'm kind of at a loss for words (though you wouldn't know it from this post)

Finals, Jordan had the flu, best player on the court.
Starks, brought it every night...the problem isn't that they dogged it, the problem is that they claim to be the best in the league (either by fan votes or scoring average)...Iverson only mailed it in in practice.

i love it when people feel the need to compare one player to another even tho the situation is entirely different as well as the era

then on top of that they will pick the greatest in the game to compare someone to

as if that makes sense

i agree with you that vince carter is a loser but i don't agree with t-mac being a loser because the guy went into the situation with Orlando ready to reap havoc. then the injury to Grant hill and so forth

maybe he don't care about the money as much as you do. aint that something especially when he cashes the checks and you don't

he didn't say he quit he said he didn't play hard all of the time.
now i ask you. who does?????

being an NBA player and working a 9 to 5 is an entirely different mindset. it has to be

honestly, i don't think tmac ever dogged it...I think he was just coming to Vince's defense...he led the league in scoring...don't think that is possible dogging it...Vince on the other hand is the leading vote getter in the all star game and is suddenly scoring 6 more points a game AND is dunking like a mad man.

that's bullsht.

No excuse for millionaire ballers to intentionally dog it. Hopefully, this will lead to a CBA that forces more player accountability. If it's not guaranteed that a player is going to play hard night in night out - then contracts shouldn't be guaranteed either.
