It's just sad. We could let all of those expire, and still have a higher payroll then many other teams.

not really 60mil is not that bad..most teams are in the 55mil range. of course we will most likely add contracts but if the players we get are good we can legitimatically contend for a championship

then we'll get the big break during the 2007-08 season when H20's $20mil contract becomes a valuable trade commodity!

I know 60 mil isn't bad...I was just commenting on the fact that plenty of teams would have a slightly smaller payroll than us IF we let over 40 mil expire.

But, as long as Dolan doesn't mind paying, I would love to make another blockbuster with a team looking to knock some $$$ off the books.

our best bet is to use the smaller ones (including Nazr) in a sign and trade for Dalembert, Curry or Kwame. Then use the full MLE to land Steven Hunter or Stro Swift, and just let Penny and TT's $30mm either come off the books at the end of the year or use them if some team decides to have a firesale after Christmas (like NO will this year).

I am still juiced that this season has been much better than the last two, but I am super juiced about what is around the corner. Unlike others, I don't just want to see the expiring contract expire - I think it's useless. I want them turned into some valuable pieces. You think Isiah has moved a lot of bodies last season? Wait until this deadline and next, it's going to be a free for all.

And talking about being juiced, tonight I am going to be juiced.

People forget how bad and talentless we were not so long ago. We've come so far from such a horrible place. It's too bad so many just look at the record and don't see it.

I think a lot of you have unrealistic expectations as to what these expiring deals can be turned into.

I think we were pretty lucky with getting Marbury- a lot of you even stated we overpaid.

We were also pretty lucky to get Craword.

Realistically, who can we expect to get for these deals- I think Fish is pretty on target with his suggestion. I can see us re-signing Nazr to some kind of deal, with the other parts moving on or ending altogether.

You're wrong, having Penny's and TT's contracts to peel off a team's books can ttranslate into a MAX free agent for a team in a good cap situation.

We get a real good player or two in the process.

Well.. the Knicks will never be under the cap, so scratch that. Martin, make no mistake.. the only reason I want Penny/TT's contracts NOT used right away is in case of a fire sale mid next year. The other thing is by letting the $30mm come off the books it gives Isiah more flexibility to use the MLE to add players, or turn Houston's $20mm into something tasty.

For the 05/06 season, some players in the TT/Penny range are

Elton Brand with 4 years,$59M

All with $57M and 4 years are:

Baron Davis
Shawn Marion
Steve Francis

Mike Bibby, $52M 4 years
Gilbert Arenas, $48M 4 years
Wally World, $46, 4 years

All with about 3 years and $45M will be
Antwan Jamison
Dirk Nowitzki
Paul Pierce
Vince Carter

Other notables
Chris Webber, 3 years $62M
Jermaine O'Neal, 5 years, $75M
Tim Duncan, 5 years, $95M

Funny how Brand's name keeps coming up as the most logical big to target!

Why would LA trade elton Brand? It is so hard to find an elite level frontcourt player, and he is young and locked up for 4 more years. the Clippers are getting better with Maggette and Brand, they have Livingston coming back they can resign a young up+coming Bobby Simmons, Kaman could keep getting better, they have a winning record, cap room+ nxt year, it makes 0 sense at all for them to even consider trading Brand. None. They traded a number 2 pick for Brand. We have absolutely NOTHING, NOTHINg that they would want.
The cost of trading for Brand must be a very high lottery pick[like top 3] a real good young player[like an Al Jefferson] + an ending contract vet who is good. But they still wouldnt do this and I wouldnt either unless the draft pick was like an Okafor. remeber they PASSED on Ok4, they couldve drafted OK4-perhaps a big mistake anyway. But that shows you just how high they are on Brand.

Out of that line up, the only guy i see who likelyn will be traded for sure is baron davis which we dont need or want.

Just look what is cost for shaq, now some of these guys are on the next level down, but they are important to their clubs. Can you just give up a Chris Webber with no replacement? Yes if you are ready to tank!+ he does have a good chance of breaking down.

i really looked at the market for ending contracts, and like this year, their value has gone down. Heck, NJ cant even trade their injury exemptions!

RIP Crushalot😞

Briggs- we're talking the LA Clippers, not the Lakers.

As for a young stud, what if they don't make the playoffs this year and end up with another lotto pick?

And, if next year they are in a bad way, might they not consider a Tim Thomas & Sweetney (assuming Sweets develops) offer that saves Donald Sterling $59M?

I agree with you that expiring deals don't always work out. But, I could see it happen that Brand gets moved- we might not be able to offer the best deal.
