The Clippers aren't a good team at all, but they aren't a sure bet for a top 5 draft pick either so I would have to say no to this deal. Plus, I would definitely like to see what Sweets can do as a starter before I trade him for a pick that may not even be a top 10 pick.

I wouldn't. I still see a great amount of upside in Sweetney. It's only his second year, and he was still a lotto pick, who if could keep out of foul trouble, can play like one.
My list of players of whom I'd trade Sweetney for is relatively short, and it would have to be a pretty high pick for me to want to trade him.

It would have to be like the negative 2nd round.

Only 2006 first round pick I would trade Sweets for is a pick that would give us a decent shot at landing Oden

my god man.. please tell *you* wouldnt do this. First of all you said yourself Sweetney could anchor the Knicks in the post for 10 years. This is how far your patience has taken you? Sweetney has 72 games under his belt and 13 minutes per for his career.

If this is your span of patience you should be trading away future picks, not trading for new ones.

No way, no how. If anything, I would offer them KT for THIS year's #1.

yup. this is pretty bad. even if sweetney is nothing more than a 6th man, he could be a pretty damn good 6th man. and for a 2006 pick? i guess you had an extra bottle of moet laying around after new years...

yeah right... not only make a bad deal for Sweetney but, sent him across the river (soon to be Brooklyn) to burn us for the next ten years!

we know this kid has a great work ethic. God forbid he sticks with Jerome in the offseason and comes into the next camp 245 and chisled. You see too many guys that are just slow developers, and I'm not even sure Sweetney is one. Just because he's not the next Amare doesnt mean you dump him for a future pick. I dont get it

what works against this suggestion is sending him to a team in the division that is weak up front- with sweetney, they become a stronger play for first place and might even knock us out of the playoffs. Any other team and if it was an 05 pick vs 06.

I know the knicks arent going to do this, but its a question of rolling the dice. would i role the dice to get a shot at a very high pick that could net us a franchise player?

there's gambles and then there's gambles. this isn't a good one.
this deal shouldn't even be considered until draft day to see who's available and where.

kurt to ANYBODY right now for a #1 - you pounce on that.
but not sweetney.

i don't think the Nets think highly enough of Sweetney to give up a lottery pick to tell u the truth...Sweetney is worth more to the Knicks than he is to another team because the Knicks have seen him in practice & can see more of the potential...he hasn't shown enough in NBA games to warrant a team giving up a top 10 lottery pick imho.

Isnt that what the Bulls have been doing for the last 6 years? Whats wrong with just building quality and moving from there?

I haven't been in NYC as long as a lot of my comrades so my interest in them began the second after I heard Isiah had been hired and all subsequent moves (Marbury, Lenny etc and yep, me like some kool aid ). I've got coworkers that were born and raised Knick fans so the idea of changing allegiances is absurd. I don't have that kind of connection to the Knicks. Consequently (and I might get roasted for this), i've gotta admit that if they trade Sweetney to the Nets of all teams i'll have a major question to ask myself (just read the tagline).

it would be risky, heck if the clippers make the playoffs this year, it becomes nets property this year in the mid range.

I like Mike Sweetney, but I think if I had to sit down and ponder if I could get this done, I may actually do it if I felt that the Clippers would not make the playoffs this year. That would put be in position to have an unrestricted pick from a franchise that has fallen into the lottery 18 times in 20 years.

I look at all the best clubs and for the most part, they are usually built around two guys. Mike Sweetney will NEVER be that guy. It doesnt mean we actually have to ever use the draft pick, but it could be more valuable in helping us acquire something BIG like Miami did.

This team is in a little bit of dissaray. Our strength so far has been cohesion--weve been able to start the same players for the most part every game. Every game we have suitable bench depth. We have no excuses for anything----we are what we are--just a mediocre team. But thats what we were last year. For all of the money we have spent, do I see any exponential improvement? answer NO.

the SUNS have shown great improvement for their money spent. If we are comparing, its not close.

I see a tremendous amount of age disparity, many question marks at many positions. I wonder if it would almost be better to take a step back in trying to produce wins, in an attempt to accumulate more and better young talent that fit together in a system.

I think thats exactly what Briggs was thinking when he wrote it. I wouldn't do it. But you also have to think. We could replace Sweetney with this yrs first rder. Plus we would have 2 first rd picks in 06 probably one pretty high one that would allow us to move up. Though I don't think anyone would allow us to trade up for Oden.
