What kind of players in the league.
I can see sweets being an Elton Brand 'type' of player once his post game fully matures and he stops fouling so much.

As for Ariza I can't tell. He could be the next Darius Miles from what I can see and he is not a player I like at all. However I do like Ariza.

He plays hard and jumps and runs well and his d is good, but he cant shoot or drible very well but he is quick and can get to the basket. I would trade him to phoenix for steven hunter if the numbers worked. For what he is bringing to the table he would work well in the west, the skills he needs are not very easy to develop either. As bad as this is gonna sound he also sounds like shandon anderson.

Where do you guys see Sweets and Ariza?

i see Sweets as an Armen Gilliam type player someday...i don't ever think he'll be a superstar player, but he'll be a good role player & put up solid #'s, & be a presence down low rebounding & getting to the line.

i see a ceiling of about 16/9 for Sweets...18/10 maybe in his career best year if he ever gets down to a playing weight of around 250 & learns how to stay out of foul trouble.

As for Ariza, i think he has the talent to be a future Scottie Pippen type player (not as good but that style of player), but he needs to develop that jumper & work on his ballhandle...but defensively, he has the right instincts & knack to get into passing lanes that Scottie excelled at...Ariza's got good court vision & can pass the ball too, so he's not just a defensive specialist...i see good upside for Ariza.

Sweetney upside = Zach Randoloh
Sweetney downside = Corlis Williamson/Tractor Traylor

Ariza upside = Cross between James Posey and Darius Miles. Maybe a little Shawn Marion, but thats WAY upside.
Ariza downside = Bruce Bowen without the 3 point shot

Ariza = Pippen without the offensive

Sweetney = not quite Elton brand but. psychically yes but he'll never be a 20 & 10 player I don't think

I like the Armon Gilliam comparison. That guy could score i a hurry, but didn't play much defense. Like Sweets.
Ariza seems to me to be like "Plastic Man" from UNLV, a good athlete who doesn't really have a role. Stacey Augmon probably plays better defense though.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Ariza has better court vision than Augmon though...i think he'll be more than just a 1 dimensional defensive player when he fully matures...he's got great instincts on the floor...right now he's just about a Tayshaun Prince w/a worse jumper but better passing skills...w/some work he can be an Allstar.

Ariza seems to be able to shoot decent but he just doesn't have the poise. He rushes sometimes, but when he takes his time it becomes a nice looking attempt. I think he might develope a decent shot soon.

But to answer your question.

Sweetney = unknown. He needs more playing time but i say if he looses weight = Zach Randolph

Ariza = a taller Ricky Davis (but less boneheaded)

Sweetney does play D and very well. His m2m D is among the best on our team. His help D is is where he's totally lost. Once he gets comfortable with the help/team D his minutes will go up

Sweetney can be good but he needs to work on his foot work. He needs to be around players that can shoot so he can get one on one coverage. I don't know good he can be. Right now he reminds of Othello Harrington when he played for the Grizzles.

Ariza is a mystery; its like he plays as if he were big and strong, but he looks like he's barely eaten in days.
Sweetney, is 6'8'' just like Ariza, but is 75 pounds heavier

Ariza mb a stackhouse
Sweetney mb Oliver Miller, altho he will need to still put on more weight

ballhandling is a skill that you don't see many players develop while they are in the league. To assume that he can and will do it is a reach in my opinion. With his height, small frame and athleticism it would seem that he could have developed into a penny type player if he only had the handle. I am not optimistic about that developing. He really should have been steered toward shat already because of his build. But who knows, maybe Penny and TT can teach him some of their skills.

They're going to turn into 2 current head coaches . . . . Sweets will be Paul SIlas and Ariza will be Michael Cooper.

Please note that both Silas and Cooper won MULTIPLE NBA titles in their playing careers as will Sweets and Ariza for YOUR NEW YORK KNICKS!!!!!

not a bad comparison Marv. just sweets won't be as vocal, and ariza won't be as good a 3point specialist. that's probably a better assesment than the elton brand one. sweets is no where near as mobile as brand.

At first I thought that Ariza reminded me of Pippen a lot, but then it hit me...He plays and looks like Michael Cooper of the Showtime Lakers without the outside shot. He runs like him and jumps like him. Cooper's ball handling was adequate but he can pass. Cooper was a great defender. Cooper played the passing lanes extremely well. All qualities I see in Ariza.

Sweetney? I want to say Elton Brand Lite. Well, maybe not weight wise but talent wise.

it takes more than just offensive rebounds and layups to average 20+ points like Brand does. I don't think Sweetney will average more than 14-15pts

Good analogy. That Tractor Traylor thing is very easy to see. IT takes a lot of energy to get Sweets big ass up the court.

Azira I think can be a grant hill type player. Same size and build. I can imagine Grants shot was not all that great his sophmore year. Trev's court sense is incredible. should have stayed in school, but I am glad he did not!
