If you think Lenny should be fired, then you really should think Isiah should be fired even more:

Isiah is the one that put a roster, of guys who don't play defense, together. If you have the impatience to really really really want to fire Lenny, then it's only justified if you want to fire Isiah.

Take in mind. I don't want to fire ANYONE. I want to make trades, so that the defense can and will improve, particularly on the interior. I want to go for bigs like Dalembert and Kwame. More so Dalembert. Chris Wilcox is another guy that I like. I don't think he's attainable, but he's a guy I'd go for.

Point is, if you are going to have patience for the roster and for Isiah, then you have to have equal patience for Lenny. It's not his fault that he has guys that don't defend. Defense is not about MOTIVATION. Any guy who plays basketball knows that.

I am not a great ball player by any standards, nor am I partiularly QUICK. But I almost always play my hardest on defense, and those are in pick up games. Meaning, I don't have a COACH to MOTIVATE ME. I almost always play good defense. And believe me, I am not even a college division 3 player. I love to play, but I am just not at that level. Meaning, if someone like me doesn't need to be motivated to play good defense, then these pro ball players, who ooze with a passion for the game, definitely shouldn't need to be motivated to play.

I put a hand up 100% of the time. If someone beats me, it's b/c they are either really explosive (Like I said, I am not that quick and I can't react as quickly to the explosive players) or if they overpowered me completely, of if they just completely played better than my good defense and totally earned it.

Either you play defense, or you don't. It's YOUR CHOICE to go out and play. You don't do it for your coach. You do it for yourself and the team. Take a GOOD defender like Chauncey Billups. Does he play defense b/c Larry Brown tells him to play defense? OF COURSE NOT. He plays it, b/c that's part of his game.

If Steph, Jamal and Timmy become good defenders, it's b/c they completely had THEMSELVES change their mindset. Not b/c LENNY or Aguire or Isiah or anyone motivated or told them to become good defenders.

Allanfan, you need a flower. No one is getting fired. It is just Knicks fans can be zany, ya know...

Also don't get Islesfan all excited with a fire Isiah thread.

Isiah has done the best he could and the best possible with the players he was handed. At that point you can't be concerned about building a championship level defensive team. You try to snatch up as much talent as you can so that you can be able to turn this around quickly. Any other GM who is a tad more conservative would've came in here and taken a longer time to make this team watchable.

Praise to Isiah! I do agree with another poster. He will really establish himself as a great GM based on what he does with our expiring contracts within the next 3years. In 3 years the Knicks have to be a championship calibur team

i'd actually like to see Isiah try coaching this team...he obviously has the respect of the players...& being the GM, they have to fear him a bit as well, because he controls their futures here in NY afterall...Lenny is a good guy & i'm sure the players like him, but they don't fear him...sometimes, a little fear is necessary to motivate your players...maybe Isiah would do a better job here than he did in Indiana, being as he assembled this team himself.

Fear is good for the short term, but it wears off eventually and players go back to old habits.

Look, I am not overreacting here. I SAID I don't think Isiah should be fired, b/c I like the direction we are headed. And take note, I am NOT a Lenny OR an Isiah fan. But I like how Lenny is dealing with the team, and I like what Isiah is starting to put together. We are not complete. Isiah has said it himself a trillion times.

My point was that defense is all about the mindset of the players. 99.9% of the times, a player doesn't play defense b/c of the coach or assistant coach or GM or their mothers. And if fear has anything to do with it, it's fear of being embarrassed by other players and NOT fear of being traded or being taken out of the game.

First of all, Lenny was arguably, the best coach out there at the time. Isiah took a gamble and picked Lenny. Excuse him for making one mistake. I do not like Lenny and I want him out. Knicks need a Pat Riley type coach.
