He finally told the guards to do a better job of guarding penetration.
That allowed Sweetney to get more minutes (Nazr's foul trouble helped)
He told Tim Thomas to play better. That allowed him to use Ariza at the 2 spot when Houston was struggling on D.
He told them to cut down on turnovers... critical against a team that pushed the ball and leads the NBA in fast break points.

Best of all he told them to get big buckets down the stretch when Orl was making runs.

Great game by Lenny, he really had the team playing with pride and fire.

Oh.. and the players did ok also.

dude, you beat me to the punch. i was going to post the exact same thing.

too funny.

it's obvious this was all because of lenny - except the beginning of the 4th. then it was his fault, but then he made up for it the final 4 minutes. he's learning. he's gonna be ok that lenny, good kid.

Yeah, I feel ya

I'm not about to start gloating, because the Knicks have certainly had their issues finishing up games, but this whole blame Lenny for everything stuff has gotten out of control.

I've always had a problem with that sports talk mentality...blaming the decrepit old man on the bench and overanalyzing his performance, and not the multi-million dollar players on the floor or in the field. Disgusting.

I know you think coaches are irrelevant, Fish, but I actually think they matter and think Lenny for once did a good job. His substitution patterns were very good. I won't compliment him for his job for the season, but I will for this one game.

if coaches are irrelevant, what do we need w/them at all? mine as well turn the teams over to the PG's & let them call all the plays, run the practices & motivate their teammates.

coaches have an impact on the performance of a team...they aren't the SOLE ones responsible for the successes or failures obviously (anyone who would think so is clueless), but they definitely do have an impact.

I never said they are irrelevant, it jsut cracks me up when guys arent playing well people think its the coaches fault. Every coach in the NBA makes 'mistakes' every night. One year a guy is coach of the year, the next he's run out of town because his star has quit on him.

NBA basketball is 95% on the players.

Every year its the same thing... Is Sloan's system no longer good, or is it harder to run without AK47, a top 10 player? Geeze, I'm not wasting my time posting the 20 examples like this that happen every year. I think you get my point.

Anyway... hopefully Lenny has more great games like this. Maybe we can run the table.

Fishmike, this is a stupid post, b/c we all know Lenny has been horrific, especially on defense. If you put Bruce Bowen and Kevin Garnett on Dirk and Finley last week, as opposed to Lenny, there is no way they could have gone off like that.

the one thing that you can lay at the coaches feet is player subsitution.

And I think many here will agree that at times, Lenny's rotations leave you wondering.
