Editorial by Nuno Cardoso / Dec. 25, 2004

TORONTO, Canada -- I don't want to get too far into this Vince Carter thing. I mean, he's left Toronto and still gets more play in the media than he deserves. I know he was an important part in the basketball explosion in the city and even in the country, but that era is over and we need to learn to move on. Toronto is the "good guy" who got his heart crushed at the dance when the hot girl decided she was no longer interested in him and wants to go home with the grimy bad boy.

There is something disturbing about a player claiming that he will "make people eat their words." What words? That Carter is soft? That he can't effectively drive to the basket? That if he gets hit inside, he will settle for jump shots the rest of the night, if not for a whole road trip or home stand? That he wants superstar money without superstar expectations?

The truth is that all these questions were raised because of Carter's attitude and on court displays, not because we are bored and have nothing better to do. His implication that we were all wrong and will eat our words implies he knows that he can do all those things that people were faulting him for and the he will now show us.

Carter seems ready to shatter some of that integrity by openly displaying that he was just coasting it in Toronto for the last 2-3 seasons, and if he can't or doesn't, the media and the fans in New Jersey and New York won't offer him nearly as much leeway and patience as their Toronto counter parts did.

This is why we were fools not to get this guy for Crawford, he wanted out of Toronto and knew the "ONLY" way he was gonna get traded was by not showing up dogging it.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

The problem with playing for the raptors is the ownership sucks.

The are not dedicated to doing what it takes to get them to the next level.

They continue hiring rookie GM's and rookie coaches out side of Lenny Wilkens.

All they want is to fill the seats without making a legit run at a title and VC found that out while being there 7 yrs.

I don't believe he dogged it all his yrs in Toronto , if he did he would have never been "VINSANITY"

Any of you wanna raise your children in Canada?

Remember Antonio Davis wanted out of Toronto and didn't want to raise his kids there.

So Carter's poor play was everyone's fault except his own?

He knows what is going on, why do you think McGRADY LEFT TORONTO ?

TORONTO AS A CITY IS COOL, BUT THE OWNERSHIP IS WHAT AIN'T WORTH ONE RED CENT!

god forbid he's not inspired by Dolan and MSG management. I thought playing in the NBA and earning max $$$ was inspiring enough. The guy is a loser and the better he plays with NJ the more he proves it. Your better off without guys like this

eh...I wouldn’t go so far as to call him a loser, but he's not a savior. I think it would have been pretty much a given that he would have been inspired by MSG and the NY environment. This fan base and media structure isnt exactly conducive to players who pout constantly and sit on the bench with towels over their head.

He isn’t blameless in this whole situation, but Toronto is a ho-hum franchise that has been spinning its wheels for years. Players avoid that franchise like the plague, nobody wants to play there. Its not that outrageous that Vcarter grew frustrated and wanted out. He could have handled it better, but I can see where he is coming from carrying a no-nothing franchise like that on his back. What obviously has me scared off is his “half-man half-hurt-all-the-damn-time” reputation. Duke cant stay healthy. I would have taken a chance on him if the price was only TT and penny.

He just sat on the sideline of the nets game with a cramp for almost 10 minutes. If it's not a cramp, he's done for hte year. So...The oft injured superstar will be voted to start the all star game and WILL NOT relinquish the starting position so that he can play that game (positive he will be healthy that week) and then back to the IR he will go.

He lost his passion...play through it, or don't play at all...but quit the "you will see" and the "I'll show you's".

He pretty much forced mcgrady out of toronto and lenny and butch and the last GM and and and.

he's garbage. face it.

it looked ugly. I think it was more than just a cramp..he wasn't able to move! and he was in so much pain! it has to be the hamstring and the aftermath of Frank playing him 40mins his first game back from a lef injury! thats just ridiculous..so glad the Nets snatched him away from us!

haha Nets fans are calling this a cramp without even realizing that he may be gone for a while and they'll be out of contention after trading what they had for 1 injury prone ex-superstar. It's a little more than just a cramp being that he couldn't move and was in a lot of pain. When you get a cramp you just walk it off

Nobody is arguing his ability to put up fantasy points and win all star votes...but he's like camby was when he was a knick...AWESOME...when he plays.

JYD provides more quality minutes to a team then this guy. We can get part time players anywhere...I'm just bemoaning his inability to NOT be hurt...He's made of glass and those that like him only get their NBA information from sportscenter and not from real life.

He's so good...why did the raptors suck so bad?

Oh, I forgot...well, tell me why he sucked so bad these last 3 years other than the fact that he DID NOT PLAY!

these knicks are only the beginning, and if you guys have your say, they will be rebuilding by the all star break, and then again by the summer...can we atleast go a full year with our team? The Pistons got to do it, san antonio got to do it...but we have to keep trading players like it's a fantasy team.

Vince would be on the IR and we wouldn't have H20 right now...snap out of it.

[mostly jokes by the way...I just used to like Vinsanity, but to be hurt all these last years and then turn his back on his team and request a trade when they were starting to put something together is garbage...jordan never requested a trade all those years the bulls sucked...Dr. Jay never demanded a trade...heck, even Iverson is sticking it out...but vince has to DEMAND a trade...he's garbage and I hope he fades to oblivion.

He broke my heart.

Yup!

I'm pretty sure the 80 mill and the chance to play in "frigid" Orlando as opposed to "bright and sunny" Toronto had nothing to do with McGrady bouncing...You dont have to lie on the boy and start telling ducktales.

If Butch Carter slapped you in the face there is no way you could describe him to police or know who he is...He hasn't exactly had a hall of fame coaching career since he left Toronto. Duke has been MIA
