Isaiah Thomas has the advantage of being one of the very few NBA executives who has unlimited resources. That's good and bad. It's good because Dolan is never shy about signing the big contract. It's bad because Isiah has taken the Knicks' payroll to $102.44 million this season. Next season, he's already penciled in for $110 million, making a free-agent signing for an impact player impossible.

How can we compete against NBA elite when the playoffs come, we need a Center with hops in the worst way.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

IT knows we need an athletic, defense minded big -- even better if he's got some low post game. And IT's got chips to get us one. Some combination of KT, Sweet or Nazr and expiring contracts should get us what we're looking for either as the trade deadline approaches or in the off season. Think it's clear that this is the plan. IT is waiting until he can find a deal that strikes his fancy, which is the right thing to do. No rush. This year isn't meant to be championship year. Get into the playoffs. Hopefully win a round, or if not, play a competitive first series that marks clear advance from last year and gets our young guys critical experience. Then, collect more players and make a run next year or the year after.

Ratings of MSG viewership is up 40%!

That is what Isiah was bought hear to do.

George Karl said he thought we could perhaps make to the second round, but we have not much more upside this year with this team.

Isiah has had a real good first year, and the trade's from now on should be very specific.

But in which direction? Try to get further now, or build for a stronger future?

yes.. George Karl... who's first big move as GM was to give TT a huge contract, and lead the US Olympic team to 6 losses.

Playa the VC stuff is pretty "played" out. Is that how you got that name?

VC will have a huge impact for the Nets giving them a nice long term max contract attached to a heartless player thats good for missing 20 games a year.

From the same article, this about sums it up:

"Thomas seems to share the same philosophy as Jerry West: acquire as many assets as possible and then try to trade for an All-Star. Some trades (Marbury) have been better than others (Tim Thomas). The only constant is that Thomas, one year after arriving in town, is always looking."
