remember laydumb was a very good draft picker
thurl bailey
Karl malone
John stockton
Andrei kirielenko
dell curry
that Pr C Ortiz who never played Blue edwards
Ostertag
andersen + eisley in the 2nd round

not bad, he did have some stinkers that i remember like erick lettner luther wright i think he was trying to find another mark eaton to play next to malone and remember these picks were usually late first round.

traded for jeff hornacek
i also know they drafted dominique but were forced to sell him to atlanta because the franchise was crumbling $$$ wise.

he seemed to go backwards other than Kirilenko for several years from 1995. who knows but i dont think judging the guy without the total body of work is fair. I dont think he is a GM, but I think it is posible he will get a head scouting job or player personell job.

he wouldn't be bad as a draft consultant just not on my Knicks team, but as a GM with his personality he will run you team into the ground.

this is what drove you crazy... we had a "draft expert" yet every trade he threw in draft picks. Harrington, Strictland, Mark Jackson.. the guys he gave up draft picks for were such a joke.

Luckily Isiah has a pretty good history of drafting also.. thats a trend that MUST continue if this Knick team is really going to bounce back.
Camby,
Damon Stoudemire (ROY)
McGrady,
Fred Jones
Ariza... am I missing some? Did he draft Mo Peterson?

Oh... by the way look who's having another good year:

Wonder if he will ever play (here)

Layden bashing is still the feel good activity for injured knick fans.

As long as we are better than Laydog, we are better off.

I'll never defend him, but I wonder how much stronger Dolan was as an owner during his tenure and dictated what HAD to get done. Not that Laydog did them well, but if it HAD to, then there were consequences. Oh were there consequences.

I would like to know what he said. He said so little as our GM, it would be interesting to see his take.

Fans feelings toward Laydog? Its all been said 100 times!

forget the houston contract (which was already promised to him)
forget signing spoon to the full MLE (to replace a retired LJ)

his first mistake was trading ewing for rice and longley which then became eisley and shandon.

he tried to recover from that but when he had his first real draft pick in the lottery, he made the deal that would put his stamp on the team and that was trading the pick and camby for dice.

he couldn't recover from that and he was done.

he deserved to be fired b/c he did a bad job. very simple.

When you talk about drafting, Isiah had an upper hand because Toronto was an expansion team...1996 was a pretty good draft, maybe the best ever....players taken after camby so any idot could have had a good draft that year

1995 (Very Weak)
7. Toronto Damon Stoudamire Arizona
10. Miami Kurt Thomas Texas Christian
13. Sacramento Corliss Williamson Arkansas
14. Boston Eric Williams Providence
15. Denver (a) Brent Barry Oregon State
17. Cleveland Bob Sura Florida State
18. Detroit (from Portland) Theo Ratliff Wyoming
21. Phoenix (from LA Lakers) Michael Finley Wisconsin

1996
2. CAMBY
3. Vancouver Shareef Abdur-Rahim California
4. Milwaukee (1) Stephon Marbury Georgia Tech
5. Minnesota (1) Ray Allen Connecticut
6. Boston (from Dallas) Antoine Walker Kentucky
8. New Jersey Kerry Kittles Villanova
10. Indiana (from Denver) Erick Dampier Mississippi State
11. Golden State Todd Fuller North Carolina State
(as usual the Warriors no brains)
13. Charlotte Kobe Bryant Lower Merion HS
14. Sacramento Predrag Stojakovic PAOK (Greece)
15. Phoenix Steve Nash Santa Clara
17. Portland Jermaine O'Neal Eau Claire HS
18. New York (from Detroit) John Wallace Syracuse
19. New York (from Atlanta) Walter McCarty Kentucky
20. Cleveland Zydrunas Ilgauskas Lithuania
21. Knicks Donte Jones

1997
8. Golden State - Adonal Foyle, center, Colgate (Warriors at it again)
9. Toronto - Tracy McGrady, forward, Mt. Zion Academy

So Isiah made some good moves but they weren't genius, McGrady was a great pick up...

BUT i watched Layden the other day boy is he awful never answers any of the questions, and just has a negative persona about him

New York had three picks and didn't trade up, bad management...Could have had the future for a long time

Wasn't Layden a scout in the mid-80s and not the GM?
